10th Anniversary Holiday - Lake, Mountains, scenery and city
Discussion
All
My wife and I are looking for a special 10th Wedding Anniversary holiday destination for next September. 2 - 3 weeks.
Our best holidays have probably been a mixture of city life (San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver, Cape Town etc) and stunning scenery (Pacific Coast Highway, Yosemite, Rockies etc).
So guess we are looking to combine some busy city time, restaurant, bars and sightseeing, then also do some amazing scenery, happy to do some driving.
We have been thinking about driving through the Rockies or even Seattle down to LA.
So far we can only come up with ideas in North America. Wonder if anyone else has any ideas?
Thanks
Ben

This is also my idea of the ideal holiday OP, and excluding Cape Town have visited all those places which included allot of driving. I’ll visit South Africa next year on Honeymoon for 3 weeks which I’ll have a car so would love to hear your opinions and tips.
Maybe lack of bravery isn’t the best way to describe it but some countries I’ve been to or want to visit one day I wouldn’t dream of trying to drive. The things that put me off are the lack of proper infustructure or the potential to be a victim of crime, so I like to stick to developed/western countries in the main. The US is a big place and it’s relatively cheap to do this kind of trip, I’ve been to CA twice now and would go back in a heart beat as I still don’t feel I’ve seen everything I want to see. Same for SA I don’t know how long you spent there but there’s surely more to see there given the size and diversity of the place?

We have looked at South America but may wait as my wife may have a work placement there next year. If this is the case then we will travel South America.
Coming onto South Africa. We have been to Cape Town twice and both times done both Cape Town city and also then driven down the Garden Route. We are not into Safari etc so have never gone down this route.
Overall we have been very happy in Cape Town, the city gives you the ability to so eating out etc with some very nice places. On top of this the backdrop of Table Mountain is amazing. Then the drive down the Garden Route is very scenic and nice towns to stop at such a Neisner. So a great mix of city and scenery.

Benidorm?

The lakes in Italy are quite nice, we stayed at Lake Garda as part of a rugby tour in the Milan area but not really a long distance for you.
Great idea, one small issue. We are flying out to Italy on Saturday to do exactly this!

Benidorm - I will pass on that kind offer :-)
