Compact Road Bike
Discussion
I'm looking for a compact in the <=£800-odd range. A year ago, that covered a whole load of Tiagra-equipped stuff, and I was all set on a Giant Defy.
Tempus fugit, though, and I didn't get round to buying anything. I'm now looking again, and everything's gone up in price, such that the same budget will only get Sora, 2300 or mongrel groupsets. Except for the BeOne Storm Comp.
I know that the RRP can be ignored, so the 35% discount on offer is only imaginary, but for the price (and £250 change), is there anything else that will beat this?
I know it's not all about spec, but from what I can gather the frame is sharp and stiff, although perhaps not up to that of the Defy, and I know all the running gear can be upgraded anyway.
Out of the box though, that BeOne looks hard to beat. Can it be?
I'm not wedded to compacts, BTW; I just prefer those that I've tried.

That BeOne in the link is actually a triple as apposed to a compact but that's not to say you can't find an exact spec BeOne in a compact as well.
Personally i've been looking at the Cannondale Synapse Tiagra which is a compact and has a more upright geometry compared to the Cannondale CAAD range. One of the best prices i've seen it at is here - http://www.pedalon.co.uk/acatalog/cannondale_synap...
Another PH'er has just ordered one from cyclesurgery as discussed on this thread - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Sorry - I meant compact frame rather than chainset.Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
