Alfa 155 - Seven FREE months of true petrolhead motoring!
Discussion
Who'd 'av thought it eh? Well I never thought I'd get 7 months hassle free motoring buying an Alfa 155 1.8 Twin Spark unseen off Ebay for £401!
I needed a car in a hurry when my Freelander let me down, the advert was everything a good Ebay advert should be and it was local, so I put in a cheeky bid of £401 and was surprised I won it.
I'd always had a thing about the 155 since I sat in one as a teenager at the National Motorshow at the NEC and followed the BTCC in the 90s, so I've managed to tick a few of my petrolhead boxes in one go.
It got a 12 month MOT with NO advisories, and now the father-in-law has bought it off me for what I paid for it - that could be interesting - it still needs a new cambelt, but I never saw the point of spending what the car was worth on having it done. Daddy-in-law is going to get it done along with a service and a new variator.
All the electrics still work apart from the oil temp gauge and the thermostat is a bit sluggish, but it drives really well and I've not seen another on the road since I bought it.
I'm almost disappointed that my Alfa was so well behaved - at least I'll still get to drive it when I want.

The only time i did anything similar was when i bought a 406 for £620 needing a quarterpanel painted. Got the work done for £70 and sold it six months later for £690.I needed a car in a hurry when my Freelander let me down, the advert was everything a good Ebay advert should be and it was local, so I put in a cheeky bid of £401 and was surprised I won it.

Wasnt nearly as interesting as an alfa, though i did get a lot of satisfaction from it.

Sounds great. I bought a 1998 Alfa 146 2.0 TS off ebay a few years ago for £500, ran it for nearly 2 years with no problems whatsoever, until, would you believe, an Italian T-boned me in Cambridge! Result-write-off, couldn't get the parts. Old Alfas are not necessarily the money pits that people think, and of course they're fun!
