Looking for some advice, I had bought a immaculate MK1 Audi TT roadster for my girlfriend about 2 months ago as an incentive for her to pass her driving test. To my absolute horror the car was stolen last week from outside the house. She was absolutely gutted and also was a week before she was due to sit her test. Today she passed her test and i now feel bad that after all her efforts to pass her test there is no car for her to drive.

So until all the insurance stuff is sorted which could take a while i was wondering is there such a car that i could buy run for two months and sell EASILY and hopefully get my money back on?

Remember this will be a girls first car so no Old Merc E - classes etc. Have seen a 2000 W re bettle for sale privately for £1850 but no idea if these are in demand or not on the used market. Any thoughts or advice would be great. Remember this is not a long term purchase it is just something to use and turn around for what i bought it

Something small, diesel, and mainstream will probably be easiest to resell given current trends. Something like a diesel Fiesta/Corsa/Clio/Yaris, but after only two months some buyers may be suspicios why you were selling on so quick.

A Beetle would be harder to re-sell than the Golf upon which it was based, and you're likely to get a better choice due to there being more out there (given your hurry to buy, you won't have to wait for a 'good' one.
You're spoiled for choice really but judging by your mention of the beetle I thought i'd keep it VW. Golf is much easier to drive/see out of and much cheaper to fix too.

What with resale costs, insurance and other unforseen costs, these guys may be worth a try:

Just hire something for 2 months. Whats the point in giving yourself the hassle of re-selling something only a matter of weeks later.

Not only that - most normal buyers will not think it a good sign having a car moved on that quickly, no matter how hard you protest they'll assume its a pup you're trying to offload!?

When I saw this thread I did consider hiring myself, but it's way more expensive with £2k car. That company is £1k for 2 months hire, add to that insurance etc and you might as well buy a £2K car as you should be able to get what you pay for it in 2 months.

I did think about hiring as certainly the easy option, but as others have said if i hire for 2-3 month that will cost around £800 - £1000. In the spirit of entrepreneurialism surely there is something worth buying, cleaning up and selling for the same or a bit of profit.

Where would you spend £2k in the classifieds to make some money?

2k scratchchin

Maybe some sort of reasonably priced classic hot hatch classic that's undervalued by it's current owner, maybe needs a good clean and T-cut, maybe one or two parts?

Sorry for being O/T but a TT for someone who has just passed - the insurance must be eye watering!

The early E46's are at this price point, there's a 328 in the classifieds at the top end of your budget, but I think it'd be questionable on insurance vs condition of car as I think it'll need money spending on it, and guessing you're going to be needing fully comp anyway

Maybe sticking with the E46 theme and looking around for something smaller engined might be an option. Alternatively a small'ish 4x4, keep it over the winter and punt off end of Feb?

I thought that.

OP, I would just get a fiesta, you cant really lose much money on one as long as you dont pay too much for it in the first place, and it will be easy to sell on.

Golf 1.6 'that would do the trick - should be easy to sell on when you get the funds ready for something better;

£2k will get you eg a 2001 5 door around 80k miles

100? Must have been a blonde. Highly sought after I hear.
