You know when you've bought another car you suddenly notice the buggers everywhere? well here's an example of one where that hasn't happened

I guess they have all reverted to their natural state...so on that basis does anyone think it's worth anything to some odd, jumper wearing enthusiast? It's got the GT interior and has just flown through the MOT, in fact, the examiner siad it was in better condition underneath than some modern examples...over to you people

I had Phase2 16v it was really fun to drive but had awful brakes and was so unreliable.

2 drives shafts in 6 mouths, alarm would go off when I was driving along, immobiliser would stop it starting when I need the car the most.

Sorted out the problems and was running well so i thought I better get rid while it was running well.

Sold it and within a week the buyer called to say the clutch had gone then 2 more weeks later he called to say that the head gasket was gone and said he was going to sue me for selling him a knackered car unless I paid for half the repairs frown

The was only 7 years old when I got it and was sold within a year.

Seeing as a new French is worth about as much as a Mars bar I`d hazard a guess at no,sorry.

Tidy it up and it'd probably make a few quid on somewhere like RetroRides or eBay.

Edit: in fact, my wallet is twitching...

Gah, I was expecting a dark blue 16v. Still have a soft spot for them. Quite possibly similar to the soft spot in my head.

Having been on the receiving end of working on those flipping things, the cuts on the backs of my hands from delving behind the dash to change out numerous bulbs bear testament to my utter passionate hatred of them.
Horrid, horrid cars! smile

As above, our mechanic detested us for looking at these cars...

Back in the day a mate had a phase 1 16v Chamade in black, affectionately dubbed "The French Supercar" due to it's rather amazingly ability to go everywhere flat out... until something broke, which wasn't long. It eventually set fire to itself in a petrol station in Livingstone.

I've only just realised that it could indeed be the reason for French car stereotyping...

Awesome car none the less!

Ha! My first car was an early phase2 19 1.8rsi - was a weird old spec - sports wheel, seats gearknob and a 16v bodykit but with steel wheels and windy windows - mine really wasnt bad at all -actually quite reliable - much better than my mates escorts, astras and novas. I blew the head gasket, couldn't be arsed to fix it so chopped it in for a Volvo 360 GLT - a better car in absolutely every way then I flogged that and bought an Alfa 33 16v - oh dear. Anyway I digress, is it worth anything? No, not really, in the same way that maestros are now like rocking horse st but are still essentially pretty worthless - it's worth at least 500notes for being tidy and having an Mot though

I'd say no too. While the 16v was rated quite highly when it was new, the rest of them were just normal Renaults.

Me too, loved those as a kid... even though they are pretty rubbish by todays standards.

I still think the phase 1 16v's look good today, if you take into account their age etc.

My dad had a 19 the exact same spec as above, white 1.4 'energy' model, 80 hp of carb fed powaaah biggrin

In its day it was light years ahead of the equivalent CVH (ugh) Escort, or Astra when new, however it was bought by one of the guys where dad worked, and in true French fashion everything electrical started going wrong pretty soon after biggrin
