Hi all,

I want to make sure i doing this right before I go ahead and order up some headset spacers.

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?Mod...

Will these do the job?

My concern is the head tube tapers out as seen here

http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/article/first-lo...

Will this matter? Are there any other suggestions?

Cheers
Dan

You can't just add spacers - the steerer is a set length.

If there are any spacers above the stem then change this over so the stem is at the top with the spacers below.

You MUST not run the bike with more than a mm or two between the top edge of the stem clamp and the steerer tube.

What makes you think the front ends too low? Its likely that theres some other underlying cause.

Can you flip the stem over to get a different angle?

Maybe an adjustable stem would help?

Thanks for everyones input.

I'll have a look tonight at what you have suggested.

I do quite a lot of communting on my bike which is 6 miles road then 18 miles old railway line. I find that on the journey I am too hunched over so end up riding gripping the handle bars with my fingers rather than my entire palm. Not very comfy! I think raising the handle bars an inch would improve the ride.

The bike is the 20.5 inch frame which in general suits me perfectly.

I had similar problems on my 2002 Giant XtC ... swapped the "flat" bars for riser bars with a 25mm rise

If you already have riser bars you could fit some with a longer "rise"

I have quite a hi-rise bar too but you could try a shorter stem to bring it closer.

If you put your elbow in front of your seat and reach out with straight fingers to your stem then your fingertips should be half way along the stem.

It sounds like you are reaching to far and slightly down. The frame size sadly isnt the full picture and you have to do a bit more to ensure a good fit.
