Was just wondering how many of you have your top down literally every time you're in the car, or does the roof stay up unless it's scorchingly hot outside?

Also have any of you received abuse? I had my first the other night, granted it was late in the evening and not particularly hot but a few guys decided to call me a ....

As a rule if it isn't raining the roof on the Chim is off; it lives in garage so rarely gets its lid put on unless its raining.

Never had any abuse but i've found most people love TVRs!

Always down unless raining. Had abuse in the Boxster (other drivers giving it the beans) but never in my MX5s.

The top on the 5 (with glass window) is a bit of a pain in the ass to put down so I saved it mostly for b-roads/longer drives.

I think you'll receive abuse in any car which is a 'special' (i.e. not a euro box); this is down to the fact that most people are nobs. Ignore it and enjoy toplessness! biggrin

Depending on type of car depends on the abuse I reckon.
However the Elise and Griffith get nothing but positive comments.

Only rain stops play. An S4 is pretty anonymous, so no abuse (yet). One of the Dads round here gets abuse in a 997 C2S hardtop. It's all about the car.

Roof up at times, roof down at times, whatever I feel like.

No abuse yet, but I probably wouldn't hear it over the exhaust anyway smile

That is a bonus isn't it! I just see lips moving...occasionly hands waving...just assume its complimentary wink

I think there might be some truth in the "what car you drive" theory.

If I was driving a mini cooper convertible with the roof down in the cold I'd be a , but if I was in a Gallardo convertible in the snow I'd get thumbs up?

It's odd though, before I did used to wonder why people had their roofs down when it wasn't "hot", but it's not about the weather, it's the feeling you get with the roof down, it totally transforms the drive for me personally.

I would never have shouted abuse though

yep definitely enjoy it, esp as only a few more weeks of decent weather!

i found that when I first bought my merc sl convertible I was only putting the top down on really hot days, after a few months it didn't matter (confidence thing I reckon - you have to just not care what people are saying/thinking) in fact driving top-down at night in summer was awesome fun especially on empty roads and I'd never done that before

There seems to be hate for people in boxsters for some reason, what amkes me laugh are comments you'd hear from people in dull hatchbacks calling it a crap car, or poor mans porsche.

Absolutely clueless....

Night time top down is lovely.

Sometimes when i've gone into town for drinks (i dont really so invariably drive) i knock the roof down for the drive home and get compliments if anythng from people.

Do you mean the fixed hard top? Or are you talking soft top?

If soft top then 1 hand over the shoulder in roughly 3 seconds from unclipping latch. Slightly faster to go back up if it's raining but again with one hand. I much prefer it to the electric job I now have on my mk3 which takes too long when sat at the lights etc so I use it less than I did the manual soft top.

I don't mind having the roof down with a little bit of rain, it's the hail stones that hurt like hell at 60mph!

From 01 May to 01 Nov, SWMBO seems to have the rood down as the default. clap From Nov to end of April it is hard top time in N. Yorshire.

Aslong as it's not raining or look like it's going to rain (I do live in south wales so that is most of the time) I'll have the roof down, over the last month I'd say easily 50% of the time. I've never really felt cold with the roof down if I have the side windows up I don't feel any wind or chill at all.
With regards to abuse my car doesn't exactly stand our so never had any one say any thing.

Depends whether i can be arsed to put it down or not!

It won't go down if less than 20 degrees though, nor if it's cloudy

My daughter on the other hand, had hers down non stop. Now the summer is over, it can be found here - http://www.centurymotors.co.uk/used-cars/renault-m...

In my homobile, I really can't care what others think. Plus, if it starts raining, it doesn't bother me as it's a st heap and will soon dry out...

If the roof's wet or I'm going on the motorway, the M3's roof stays up. All other times it's down. Weather/temperature matters not; that's why the car comes with seat heaters (cold day) or air con (hot day).

Surprisingly I've not been abused much behind the wheel of the M3 or even the VX beforehand (the odd "wker" shout out is inevitable). In fairness the cars only tend to get used on hoons so I'm not sitting in a traffic jam on a cold cloudy day, on the rat run, with my roof down.

Wind deflector is great for hood down motorway driving.

roof down whenever I have a cabrio/vert as long as it is not raining or imminent..the cold never bothers me, the feeling of driving with the roof off is superb. Thought there are certain areas I wouldn't want to be roofless in..you know those less solubrious parts of town that you sometimes have to pass through to get to another nice place!!..not for the abuse, just for the smell and the aesthetic nightmare!!..
