Found this article in my local paper this morning - just thought I'd share it with the rest of you as the Councillor's response made me laugh a little.

Oh no, I can here the winter tyre evangelists forming in the distance ready for a raid.

Edit: Shat, too late!

Why would they need a grit bin when ten years ago Dr Viner tells us snow is something we'll never see and will be available only in VR for our children? confusedroflroflroflroflroflrofl

But on a serious note, do homes on unadopted roads pay less council tax? Or are they penalised the same as other homes on adopted roads? Was just wondering if a reduced council tax rate would be a reason for them to get their own grit box rather than have it supplied out of their council tax payments?

I guess if all else fails, they could just steal grit from neighbouring roads and put it in a spare bin hehe

We don't have a road and we pay the same council tax as someone on a main road

We also have to take our bins a mile to get emptied

No they don't, Council tax must be the most bent system going!

Why is that a strange response? Seems like quite sensible to me. It is an unadopted road, so the council have no remit to do anything with it, and if they are having issues, get a vehicle that will better cope. Not rocket science.

Even though the road is unadopted(what a stupid thing) he's still paying council tax just like everyone else, so why can't they just be helpful of their counties citizens. Much easier to grit than getting a environment killing, gas guzzling monster(or so I'm told by certain pressure groups) just for a week of the year? Unless we're not getting all the info from these two pen pals.

Because if they had to uphold every request for something then they would be bankrupt very quick.

may I be so bold as to recommend:-

the Council also has a moratorium in place on new grit bins.
WTF?

When we are heading for colder winters, Why would the council single out grit bins?

would it be so that they can enforce their green, car hating agenda on people and wave the climate change/you much pay more tax flag?

Oh dear, my local paper (or at least was before I saw the light & moved from this ahole of the World). To be fair, when he mentioned a 4WD BMW, the Councillor was probably referring to the all too numerous X5's & X6's that frequent the mean streets of Bradford.

Strangely there usually driven by 18 & 19 year olds with a taste for gold bling, baseball caps & no discernable source of income..........

Isn't an unadopted road to all intents and purposes a private drive, as far as the council are concerned?

They wouldn't be interested in gritting a farmer's 2-mile drive, so why should they grit a privately owned road?

Yep, same as a farmers drive. In fact mine is the old farms drive. It's our responsibility to maintain so I wouldn't even ask for a grit bin from the council. Might ask them where to get one or if they had any we could purchase.

Which reminds me. Might be time to look for something for the winter.
