Hi All,I use my Chim' everyday for short runs 2-3 miles. Yes I realise a spirited run does it the world of good. However it does suffer some hesitation on light throttle usually solved by cleaning the Stepper and lately the plugs. It was suggested by my garage to consider using Iridium Plugs? Have any members used them with any advantage? If so, what type/grade? Thanks for any replies. John042

should it still not run fine with normal plugs though, so does that not suggest an issue somewhere that needs addressing? like having a blowing exhaust and turning the volume up on the radio doesn't cure the problem

John is only asking a general question plugs do have a big affect on the way an engine performs, the way you drive and conditions its driven under can benefit
from a change in heat range this was a regular thing we did at the dealers in the 60s and 70s ,perhaps we should have fitted a radio instead .

Check the plug colour, as its likely they are sooting up as they are not running hot enough. If they are carbon black, then try the same plug type, but one heat grade lower. I think the TVR's are a 7 heat grade, so drop it to 6. This means the plugs run hotter, so less carbon builds up. You dont really need fancy plugs if you get the temperature grade correct.

Thanks for the replies. Radio's crap Andy, CD's? Wot's them? I still use tapes, 8 x tracks if I can get them! The issue is short runs causing plugs not reaching the correct temp to burn off the effects of the cold starting fuel enrichment. I thought perhaps Iridum plugs might have a wider temperature operating range? Geoff, when you were in the motoring trade they were still running on solid tyres and hand throttles weren't they? Fixed your oil leak yet? Nothing like a good banter first thing in the morning. Happy days everyone. Cheers John042.

From what I remember the plugs can have either a shrouded electrode or a projected electrode. The TVR ones I have seen are shrouded, but the Range Rover set up uses projected tips that I think have a wider heat range. I run Range Rover plugs in my 3.9 Ginetta without them fouling or overheating.

Thanks for the info' blitzracing. At the moment I'm running on the recommended NGK type which have a projecting electrode. What make/type are you using? Thanks John042.

Thanks for the info' blitzracing. Certainly worth a try rather than blame the 'poor old stepper motor' every time. Cheers John042.
