Is a VW T2 a bad idea as a people carrier?
Discussion
My wife has an 05, 2.9D Kia Sedona ... uninspiring car but perfectly functional, 80000 miles so far with very little to complain about. She needs a minimum of 6 seats as we have 4 kids.
It's 6 years old now, and having a bit of cash burning a hole in my pocket, I'm wondering if it is worth changing it for something more interesting. I've always had a bit of a soft spot for VW type 2's (I would love a 21 windows or split screen, but I would need it to be in fully restored condition as my spannering capabilities are best described as "limited").
Anyway, I found out that Danbury are importing these things ... would a new build, 1.4l T2 configured as a 6 or 7 seater be a really stupid idea as our main family car?

I know I'll get flamed for saying this but I wouldn't want my missus driving my kids around in an old bus like that.
Not that much fun to drive and not the best in a crash.

Plus they have the handling and fuel economy characteristics of a Second World War battleship.
Sat in one a year or two back. Steering wheel almost horizontal and straight in your stomach. Nothing between your feet, the pedals and the outside of the vehicle.
I love the idea and I can accept the argument that life has sharp edges and that wrapping yourself in cotton wool is not always the best option.
But as has been said before, I'd not want my wife in that in a crash.
I'm all for retro but this is a 50? 60? year old design which will have to mix it with modern heavy (in weight) traffic.

It isn't completely clear from the photos but it does look as though it is lap belts only. Not that much fun to drive and not the best in a crash.
Wouldn't want my kids being ferried around only strapped in with lap belts.
We were in Devon recently, at the beach. I noticed two three car related things while there.
1) It must be hard to look cool as a surfer with a T2 because every second surfer has a T2.
2) Mk1 MX5s were only sold in unusual colours there. I saw two white ones and an orange one. No red, green or black ones.
EDIT: Oh, and 3) Ferrari Testarossas are ageing disgracefully well. For the first time ever I actually thought it looked better than a BB.
