Mod's, I know that there are clear rules for cross-posting, but can't some discretion be applied sometimes?
This thread http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0... in Biker Banter didn't need to be closed in my opinion. Whilst I recognise there's a thread running in General Gassing, many of us in the bike bit don't necessarily visit all of the other sections.
The OP obviously wanted as much coverage as he could for the petition so he put it in GG, so what harm is there raising awareness in another very relevant forum?
I know there are rules to obey, but surely a little discretion every now and again wouldn't go amiss?

We close cross post on sight as it is a contravention of the rules, where do you draw the line on discretion? where do you draw the line on consistency?
Hence we close them all regardless of content, after all what if you had cross posted on multiple forums? members do regularly.

So if you were posting that, would you have put it in GG where it would get more traffic or in Biker Banter where it would potentially get more 'passionate' responses? I think the ideal situation would be as the OP did to be honest.Whilst not strictly within the rules, I just can't see why a little leniency can't be applied every now and then. The OP (and every response since) has stated that it's a very worthwhile cause and one which is in a very tight timeframe.

The main thread is PH is doing very well, when I closed the cross post in BB it had 4 posts in 27 minutes, whilst the one in GG had been running 1/4 longer and had 78 posts so it was getting the desired traffic.I'll pay the 10p to allow cross posting of this thread.

But without rumbling on, is that not because so many people saw the thread in BB then went to the one in GG?Is there any way that the thread in BB could be closed but not to allow it to sink? I don't mean make it a sticky as such, just so it stays on the front page to allow people to see it for a few days.
I know that the fella above said that we should all look at all bits of PH, but that isn't realistic for everyone. If it's something that is so relevant to one specific forum I can't see the harm in cross-posting a link, even if replies on that forum aren't allowed.

How many views in BB though? How many potential bikers seeing the details and posting on other forums? I agree about the cross posting rules, just think some discretion could be used at times

I was trying not to be drawn in either, but is it really that hard for you to understand?Of course you don't need a thread in every forum, but can you seriously not see how a thread relating to a motorcylcist being killed by a drunk driver may be relevant to a motorcycle part of the site?
Do you see the corelation? And I'm afraid that not all of us surf every area of the site. Guess we should be grateful folk like you are about to put us right when we do dare venture out.
