So,

I'm messing about earlier on,i jump in the air, land & go over on my right ankle, with my full weight of 15st behind me from about a foot in the air, to say it was painful was an understatement, it was even said i might have been rolling around screaming like i'd been shot for 5 minutes until the pain subsided some what.
Anyway, i got up, hobbled around for 10mins or so and decided to have a lay down for 10mins.
I can then stand up, put weight on it, walk pretty much normally, but i can't rotate it etc.
It's also quite tender if i take the weight off of it or touch the outside of it & it's now swollen up a fair amount (see pic).
(Weird that it hurts when i rest it or take the weight off of it)!
Any ideas on what i've done? I've got the Dr's tomorrow for something else anyway so i'll ask them then if they know what it could be!

sounds like a sprain to me. I have sprained my ankle pretty bad before which felt pretty similar to what you have there. in the morning you'll probably have bruising which covers your ankle but is worse at the bottom of your ankle, at the base of your foot running towards your toe. It can take weeks to heal a bad sprain. Alternatively, if you heard a pop, then you could have snapped a ligament which i can also vouch as being extremely painful, pretty similar to a sprain but recovery times are much longer and generally involve building the muscles up in your ankle to take on the job of a ligament. Eitherway, rest, ibruprofen and hot and cold compress' will take the swelling down and speed up recovery.

sounds like a sprain from the basis you can walk on it reasonably well ...

I reckon you'll be needing an Xray of that ankle, you can easily walk on a fractured ankle, I see it frequently. In the meantime, rest, ice, elevate and regular painkillers.

I've just been through this, and the advice given is exactly what I was told at A&E (RTA, so they insisted I go to get checked out).

They'll probably x-ray it at the hospital to check for a break/fracture. They'll then assess whether you've done any ligament damage. If that checks out OK, it's the normal routine of:

1) Resting it until the swelling starts to go down; elevate, ice and ibuprofen
2) Try to give it some light exercise to get blood to it (which will help the healing process)

I got off lucky given the size of the swelling and speed of impact; everyone I saw told me it was broken, but I didn't actually even damage the ligaments too much. I couldn't walk on it at all, for at least 3 hours, and when I did I wished I hadn't.

From my experience, I'd guess it's 'just' sprained, but it won't half hurt!

I thought it was probably just a sprain, i just thought it was funny that it didn't hurt when there was weight on it but did hurt when weight was taken off of it !

Mine was the opposite; I had to use crutches for a couple of days because it hurt to put any weight on it. It's got slowly less painless and more flexible though, so you have that to look forward to at least.
