As I posted in the other wheels thread; [will add a link later]

We have been playing about with wheels. The T350c is fitted with 18" spiders, these have ancient goodyear eagle F1's all round. We decided to trial our 17" RL7's, these have Toyo T1R's (Cerbera 4.5 wheels) - we've got a manky set that we have spare.

A few things I noticed;

1) They are ugly. The spiders look sooo much better.

2) RL7's are pretty bloody heavy.

3) Spider Wheels are even bloody heavier!!

I honestly couldn't believe how heavy all of them were. For reference, I weighed two fronts with the tyres above - the T1R's being marginally wider... Spiders = 22kilos w/tyre, RL7s = 20.5kilos w/tyre.

For an indication of just how heavy this is, I have a Mazda mx5 - its wheel and tyre are roughly 2/3rds the size of the TVR's - the weight? Under 10 kilos w/tyre!!

Does anyone have any figures for SP12s/ other wheels?? I am astonished these cars handle as well as they do with such weight at each corner - but I guess that explains thier 'heavy' feel compared to cars of similar weight??

I'll update this with photos/ rear wheel weights when I next have a play with them all. I just found it surprising... It has also made me start to hunt for some seriously lighter wheels for the future. smile

I have Pro Race 1.2s (SP12s) fitted to my Tam. I think the 8in fronts are 4kg lighter than the 8.5in spiders that came off, the 9in rears are 2.5 kg lighter. The car definitely feels sharper with the new wheels on (same tyres).
