As mentioned in another thread, I am looking to buy some winter tyres for a spare set of alloys I have. The alloys are 7.5J x 17 and as such, the recommended width of tyres is 205-235mm with 215-225mm being the ideal size (says a website somewhere). The recommended(approved?) tyre size that BMW themselves list for winter tyres is 235/45R17. Running the various sizes through another website gives me the following list of applicable tyre sizes (some are easier to buy than others):

205/50R17 & 205/55R17
215/50R17 & 215/55R17
225/45R17 & 225/50R17
235/45R17 & 235/50R17

The best match (with regards to circumference) are the 215/50R17. So the question is, which tyre size should I opt for? The one recommended by BMW? The one with the best match in circumference? The smallest size so it cuts better through snow? The one that is cheapest/widest available?

confused

As this is for winter tyres - you're not going to go too wrong really as long as they are correct for your wheel size (and you have already checked that).

Personaly I would say either go with the one recommended by BMW or the one that is cheapest/widest available.

And only the latter if its a large difference in price or you really can't get hold of the BMW recommended sizes.

Just easier that way!

And now the Indian summer is all but a distant memory, I've had these fitted today by a very effective Event Tyres fitter:

Kumho I'ZEN KW27 in 225/45R17 94V XL for £384 fitted on my doorstep.
