E Type Memories And Story's Anyone ?
Discussion
Anyone have any 1960s and 70s E Type Storys and memories ? Must be lots surely ?
A friends now ex Wife drove the wrong way up a one way street in Londons West End , I'n her Herald we think, when she had a head on with Dudley Moore and his then G/ friend, the Beautifull Suzie Kendal. I'n Dudleys Brand New E Type Roadster.
Dudley , Allways the Lady's Man , was a complete Gent , totally calm and very charming, but Miss Kendall was furious , shouting out " Look what you have done, Do you realise This car cost more than £ 2,000 pounds !!
Apparently the story appeared I'n the London Evening Paper.
Another guy I know owned Autocars Long term test Gunmetal 61 E type 3.8 Roadster. By 1970 it was very scruffy and tired and had been painted sky blue. One headlamp glass was missing and the radius Arm mounts were rotten . One day whilst posing roof down along Sourhend sea front , their was a loud bang, with the back of the E hitting the Tarmac, followed by the drivers rear wheel rolling down the road!!
He had a dice with a new 3 Litre Capri ( Zodiac 128 BHP model ) one day along the a127 , it just stayed ahead of the Capri.

In the euphoria of the E-type Jaguar's fiftieth anniversary, I've been longing to tell this little tale.
Two E-type Jaguars first competed at Oulton Park on Easter Saturday, April 15, 1961. Graham Hill won in Tommy Sopwith's Equipe Endeavour car, while Roy Salvadori slipped to third in John Coombs' model.
Two days later, they were at Goodwood for the Easter Monday meeting, and so was I. My abiding memory was that every Jaguar dealer in the south of England came to see the E-types race, and of course, they came in their E-type demonstrators. The car parks were full of them.
After the meeting, we all piled into our cars to go home, getting stuck in a long queue towards Petworth on the A285. This did not go down well with the E-types. One after another, they peeled off back to Chichester as they all overheated in the queue. Not such a great idea to bring the E-type...
E-types will be back at Goodwood on September 17/18 for their special one-make race, the Fordwater trophy. Hopefully those bringing their E-types to this special celebration will have sorted out the over-heating problem.

Lovely story !! Wasnt it Sopwith ( aparently a bit of a ladies man and a practical joker ) who dressed his dog up complete with leather flying hat and goggles and strapped him on to the passengers seat. Apparently one of Sopwiths pals was stunned that he had turned up with such an ugly G/Friend....Until closer inspection revealed it was a Dog !!
