Small world - I saw it climbing out of Heathrow as well, while I was waiting outside the office in Slough for the AA to come and collect my thoroughly knackered Rangie, which appears to have decided to have its bi-annual electrical brain-fart today.

Will it hell - I stopped taking it to the main dealer years ago, having poured cash equivalent to a sizeable chunk of the Greek National Debt into their coffers - nowadays it goes to a LandRover specialist (owned by a BMI pilot, as it happens). I think the Rangie likes it there - it certainly keeps trying to get back there on a regular basis.

So does anybody know what a C17 was doing at Heathrow?

You better off asking on egoat or pprune. Some of the C17 pilots seem to be on pprune.

It will be a compassionate case. A close relative of a member of the armed forces serving overseas will have been taken ill (with only hours to live).
Therefore they will have been flown back to the UK civ air into Heathrow, then the quickest means possible is used to get them to their final destination.

De La Rue the money/bank note printers have a factory up that way, so chances are it's a cash run.

They have two seven, it frequently comes into B'ham to drop off soldiers at the military hospital.

Yes, we use any aircraft we have available. The Military take compassionate cases very seriously and will pull out all the stops to get the person home.

The critical care air support team flights that bring our wounded troops home from Afghanistan fly from Camp Bastion straight to Birmingham airport.
