I've been contemplating buying another car - and running it alongside my existing car for a while and then taking a view on whether to sell one of them or keep them both.

I've got a good insurance record and the insurance premium on my current car is reasonable.

I've got a couple of insurance quotes for the potential new car - and I'm stunned how expensive it's coming out as a result of having no NCB for the second car - like about £3000 vs £600 if I had it as my only car and transferred my existing long NCB to it.

Is there a cheaper way I could do this ?

Use the NCB on the expensive one? I'm guessing the new car is a toy rather than a beater?

They new car will be a toy - but with potential to be a daily driver if it works out - doesn't seem to matter which one I apply the NCB to, the one without any still works out v expensive.

I'm in a similar situation. "normal" insurers wont touch my celica as it is both an import and relatively highly modified with a 50% increase in power. I looked to get a little corsa as a runaround. Using the NCB (7yrs) from the Celica it is £280 to insure but with no NCB it is around £800 mad

  • *eta: I just spoke to my insurers and they would mirror my NCB onto a second car***

Some brokers (Flux and A-plan for certian) will mirror your NCB on two policies. If it is a high power, high risk toy Markerstudy did have a multicar policy specifically for toy+daily and only one driver. Or insure the toy on very limited miles with someone like CCI and you might be ok without NCB.

Good luck i spent a while looking at the same thing and will be calling about again just after xmas when my toy will hopefully be working again.

smile

Edit, just seen what toy, ignore the bits about high power. wink

Admiral mirrored by NCB on my second car.
I had to get past the drone on the first line phone and speak to an adult but they were fine about it.
I just needed to send them proof of my NCB from my other insurance.

I couldn't do a multicar with them because my main car is an old import and Admiral won't insure it.

Remember, the insurance companies want your business.
And 10 years NCB is proof you haven't crashed for 10 years, so an underwriter can see you're a safe bet.
