I know this varies from the type of car and type of use.

But in my mind a vehicle returning "good" mpg has always been something that'll offer up a modal average of 28-32mpg.

While anything averaging (modal) 21+mpg is still perfectly fine and anything mid 30's or higher is unbelievable economical.

So, in this modern changing world of £6.35/gallon of fuel, what do you consider to be "good" mpg?

Anything less than 45 mpg isn't good to me.

Currently stuck with sub-20 MPG from my Prelude, I've been looking around at different cars and consider anything around 30 to be good.

Over 30 is good.

My car have ranged from 9mpg (SL55 AMG - around town) to over 40mpg (A8 4.2 Tdi on a continental run).

You know it has a gearbox yeah? You don't have to drive everywhere in 1st hehe
I'd probably say the gearbox is fked too along with a lot of other things, hence the low MPG biggrin

I average 34 from my car and I drive it like I stole it so am very happy with the performance/costs especially as I have a 40 mile each way commute.

Interesting, i consider north of 40mpg to be good, 30-40 to be acceptable and less than 30 to be a bit poor. Less than 20 is tragic.

Doesn't stop me driving my MX5 @ ~28mpg biggrin

Is your perception of acceptable economy a reflection on your age? Disposable income? Both?

Anything over 30 is good. 20-30 is OK if I like the car enough to justify it.

on a run I've seen 17mpg, average 14.5mpg, so 20mpg would be incredible for me biggrin

I'll go with you on your definitions. My MR2 has averaged 26~ so far, but it doesn't bother me - it is 'poor' mpg though.

30+ to me is good. Worst iv ever had was my punto gt which averaged 21mpg and went as low as about 14. I thought this was normal but the guy who bought it from me and fixed it up replaced the fuel tank apparently frown.

for me anything over 30's good,

mid 20's affordable.

couldn't consider any car which couldn't return 20mpg as an everyday car.

It varies.

A petrol V8 doing 35MPG I would consider very good, a diesel Fiesta doing 35MPG I wouldn't.
