Em177's RX7 FD Twin Turbo

Hi again all! This is 5th Pistonheads readers ride thread.
Am currently 20, at 17 I had a Mk4 Astra SRI 1.8 as a first car. Was a cracking thing, as big an engine as I could afford to insure. And lowered on expensive coilovers it actually handled very well for a FWD shopping trolley!
Then when I turned 18 I opted (for the obvious PH choice!!) of an early Mk1 Mazda MX5! Paid £750 for it, ran it through the snow, rain, the lot. (with the roof off obviously!) Then after a lack of talent in the rain with no ABS in ended in a wall! It was promptly replaced with a Lexus IS200.... rather too promptly to be honest as I never really fell for the car, and it only lasted less than 4 weeks! (sold for a little profit mind! :P )
Then I got my second Mk1 Mx5. But this one was a bit special... a Jackson Racing converted wide arched Supercharged 1.8. Was a cracking wee thing to drive. Would have kept it but the lack of a Limited Slip Diff really started to annoy me! Used to spin the inside wheel way to easily!
Anyway quick brief over and here's my latest toy! Its a Mazda RX7 FD Twin Turbo (always wanted one of these since playing Gran Turismo as a kid!!)
Car has had a full engine Type R rebuild just 4k miles ago, with stack loads of recipts to prove it. And a new clutch fitted around 1k miles ago. Its in PZ black, with only 50k miles on the clock. Bodywork is very tidy for the age, and has absolutely no rust anywhere
In terms of modifications it has: ARC Induction Chamber, MINES ECU, KEI OFFICE Coilovers, HKS Super Drager Exhaust (makes an awesome crackle and pop on the overrun!), 17'' 5Zigen FN01R-C alloys (staggered)
Greddy Boost gauge and the Optional Factory front fogs
Havent got any proper pics of it yet, will get some taken asap! Here's the only one I have at the minute (apologies for not getting out of shot in time as well!! :P )
Have a few things planned for it, don't think i'll have it for too long. Lovely thing though it is, once the itch has been scrated the sensible head will come in and realise that running a 165mph, 300+bhp coupe as a daily probably shouldn't be highest on my priority list while at uni! Although thats the PH spirit so Im gona enjoy it and treat it whilst it's here!

I'm 20 and I was going to have one of these. Insurance would be the same as my Mini which for me is £1000 but I had the Mini instead as it's a bit more iconic.
Back to this car though and most RX7s are outstanding.

Ridiculous, you pay alot at the moment.... so a High end jap turbo usually nicked and modified motor will be horrendous.You could probably insure an M5 cheaper.

It's getting really hard to find a nice RX7 these days. As a rough and somewhat unscientific way of looking at it, there are more Ferrari 599's for sale on Pistonheads at the minute than there are RX7's.
I much prefer the earlier pre '99 spec facelift cars. The biggest problem when trying to source one is that most have either been fettled with to around 400bhp, which would worry me due to the already short lifespan of the rotary engines. And if you do find one with a rebuilt, sensibly tuned engine like mine, then more often than not they have been covered in Fast and Furious style tat (each to their own, just im not a fan!).
Like I said i'll get some pics up soon when it's clean!
In terms of future plans, im not convinced on the wheels (although they are apparently very expensive) might try on some RX8 wheels to make it look a bit more modern. And apart from that it'll just be little bits and pieces to clean it up!

You could probably insure an M5 cheaper.
I tried to get insured on an E36 325i coupe, am 21 and the cheapest was £2500... You could probably insure an M5 cheaper.

Right, quick update, once again cheers for all the positive comments. They are much appreciated.
However it pains me to do this, but have had a change of personel circumstances and can't really justify keeping a second car at the minute so have made an advert up on a few sites too see if it will get any intrest. Have only had the car a month, and ive ticked off the dream ive had since a kid of owning one. But makes one more sense for someone to have it and get use out of it rather than it sitting on my parents drive getting minimal use!
