Simpo's next boat

OK I admit it, HMS Simpo is lovely but just too small, either for solo weekends or entertaining.
Something in the 27' x 9' area would be about right, but I need to pin down a make/model. There is not much between 1970s boats full of horrible stained plywood and green vinyl, and modern designs that look sexy on the outside but have poor accommodation (mostly cockpit) and slitty windows too high to see out of. (I like to admire the swans and see which hire boat is about to hit me while I'm having my cheese sarnies!)
The one oddball is the Shetland 27, which has an almost-trad outside but clean modern interior and lovely cockpit. It also has useful options like bow thrusters and microwaves. Before I kill some relatives to raise the money, does anyone have any other makes/models they could suggest? Single inboard diesel preferred.

Jon, I owned a Coronet on the broads, 28ft and 5 berth, with heads and shower.
Made in Denmark I think, double skinned it was very very well built.
Large area out the back for fishing or beer tasting.
Do some googling mate, great boat and we were sorry to sell her. Somewhere on web is a database of pictures of broads boats, she was called Fleuron.

Right here's the plan.
Bash auntie on the head tomorrow, do a quick deal with the executors and buy 40,000 euros next Friday for what I expect to be a 1.17 - 1.00 exchange rate so you have spent 34K english.
You and Me board Easyjet for Nice on Friday night and we'll spend the night drinking and womanising etc. If I can leave you to get the air tickets as you live closer to Stanstead. See the broker on Sat morning first thing and offer him 35,000 of our euros and walk away, get phone call by lunchtime and we say actually we are going home so if he wants to throw a tank of diesel in we'll do the deal. Might be best to let me do this bit as I have an ideal Cockney trader accent mixed with a little je ne ces quoi and all that.
Spend next 3 weeks trotting along the Cote D'azure spending our 6K that we earnt on the deal.
End up at Marseille where I have a word in the shelllike of the s
tbag that nicked all the gear off my boat and explain that he will be taking the boat by road to Calais and we will be travelling with him to make sure he doesn't do it again.
The value of this transaction will be driven purely by how menacing you can look in your 1970s aviators and knee length khaki shorts, therefore it is only fair that you pay for this element.
On arrival at Calais due to your nervous disposition with sea travel it would be a good idea if you fill her up with fuel to set your mind at rest that we won't be floating around the North Sea.
Into the Wash and show the river authorities what we think of their mamby pamby speed limits and onto the mooring.
If you could then give me a lift home in the Griff that would be most welcome. I would of course offer some petrol money but given that I have just saved you £12k on your intended purchase and also saved you looking like you are driving about the river in an upturned bathtub I have no doubt that you would refuse, so I won't.
Obviously this would be a great expense to myself but anything for a mate and all that.

It seems I need to buy a twin-engine 200hp jobbie just so I can get Motorvator home after his holiday which I appear to be paying for!
Mind you as the trip will involve crossing the Bay of Biscay Area of Death Ships Graveyard I may decide to fly home and let him sink with all hands (two I believe). If he is very lucky he may come home in a big yellow helicopter clutching half a steering wheel and covered in seaweed.

You are obviously having a mid life crisis along with a concern about doing anything exciting due to your perceived old age and maybe hurting yourself a little bit.
I am concerned you will be trading the Griff in shortly and driving a Prius whilst wearing sensible attire so we all need to support you at this testing time....
What you actually need is my other toy.
8.2l Chevy powered with straight through exhausts handily fitted with a hook in the cabin to hang your gold chain on to stop it whacking you in the face at 70+ mph.
27 foot, so meets that criteria and also has full standing headroom as long as you are located exactly at the front hatch so that one is Ok too.
Mates will much prefer to be taken out on this and there is also a chance that wimmins might show an interest too.
I can of course let you have this at the same money as a new Shetland. Have you got any other relatives you can knock off to pay for the fuel?

I've just been researching Fairline Targa 31s - the cheapest of the 'class' options - great in parts and old ones in budget, but stupid big twin petrols and poor accommodation. Don't want to have to dismantle the table to make a bed (nor sleep under the cockpit!) Sealine S28 looks interesting but big sticky-up bit will hit bridges. Sheerline 820 also but none about.
So it looks like I'll either have to stay with a boat that's too small, or see what Mr Shetland can do in terms of price and options... agree it doesn't have sexy looks but it is at least designed for inland use and has some nice touches. If anyone here is looking for a very good Freeman 23 let me know.
