projector fogs as headlights?

I have been giving thought to building an Aston replica but the price of original headlights is eye watering. I found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBsyONwjVRU&fea... and they are using the fibreglass body moulding, 4 projector fog lights and a plastic lens cover to seal it all in.

My question is about the beam pattern, will it pass MOT if they are designed as fog lights? and will they be any good or limited by short range?

Have tried the light manufacturers' sites and none show the projected beam pattern but Hella state that theirs contains a blanking plate for the beam correction.

I cannot see these passing the SVA requirements. Do not forget unless your car is based on a complete unaltered chassis that was previously registered your kit will need SVA.

I suppose its possible but looking at the reflector shape and lens I cannot see this as a legal headlight.

The kit Im going for is for a jag xk8 or xkr so will only re-body the front end and boot really, very little modification to do, so will continue to drive it as a modified jag xkr. But would love to use the DIY headlights rather than spending mega bucks on 2nd hand originals, but the DIY lights would be a waste of money if they wont be legal

Edited to add: I have got a definitive answer from friend at VOSA and they cover this on refresher courses for testers, the beam is allowed to be flat (no kick up on either side) no problem as long as its aimed few degrees below horizontal and has a clear cut off on the horizontal. Have to aim the beams fairly accurately but shouldn't be a prob. Said if any tester tried to fail me for no kick up I can ask for the testers handbook and for them to point out what it failed on. cheap lights here I come

IIRC, and could well be wrong, there's a requirement that they dip to the left? If so, not sure you'll be able to achieve this with projector fogs.

Do you really mean fog lights which have a wide beam?

SVC do 90mm dipped and main units.
