I'm from West Lothian...why is it called the West Lothian question? I couldn't find an answer in that article.

Tam Dalyell was the MP who raised the question.

In he article "The so-called West Lothian Question was named after the constituency whose MP, Tam Dalyell, first raised the problem in 1977 of MPs influencing legislation which did not affect their electorate."

Ah. Good old Tam (I still remember him coming door-to-door back in the day). Thanks.

Do we really need yet another 'commission' for this? Just follow the SNP's lead and make sure Scottish MPs abstain when voting on English only matters.

The fact that this 'problem' has such a 'common sense' solution....yet it takes this long for the 'question' to even be debated....shows that Politics in this country is broken in it's current form.

The whole system needs a serious overhaul. The people in charge just don't represent the views of the citizens. This is wrong, and needs to change.

Relying on Scottish Labour MPs to abstain then, making them even weaker in Parliament...yeah right!

Seems the jungle drums are starting again.

As I have also stated previously, many times before.

It's SO simple, just takes honesty and integrity from the effected MP's.

If the SNP can manage their affairs [and I dislike saying that] then why can't Liarbour??

Gordon Brown is an MP for where?
Alistair Darling is an MP for where?

The reason they couldn't do it was that their UK majority was in Scotland and Wales.
