Bugatti Galibier On Hold

Needs more power and space, says Bugatti chief

Production plans for the new Bugatti Galibier 16C have been put on hold after Bugatti (and Bentley) boss Wolfgang Durheimer decreed that the planned hyper-saloon isn't enough of an 'argument stopper'

A Bugatti source has told US blog site Inside Line that the new car needs both more space and more poke if it is to sufficiently impress mega-rich owners and their friends.

"In his opinion," the source said, "there should not even be a question about the best car in the world when you sit down to discuss it with your billionaire buddies.

"He doesn't want to build it until it's the car that finishes the argument, not the car that starts it.

"Right now, it's definitely not enough (power) and it needs more space and comfort, especially in the rear.

I like that though: "no, it's not ready! Needs more power. Get back to work. Schnell!"

Not the prettiest looking car, and doesn;t even look that big?

The headlights on the car in the first picture, look like they have come from a recent Saab!

That's the first thing I would have said if I was in that meeting! 16 would be the obvious choice but 11 would also work smile

I think the fact that the word 'possibly' is even considered is exactly his point.

Somehow I see Jag S type meets Chrysler Crossfire ( although I hate doing that "looks like a..." thing rolleyes

Hellish exhausts- you'd need to be a billionaire to pop round to Kwik Fit for some replacements.

I get the Veyron; it's top trump and a working production experiment, but this...?

If you were a billionaire, why would you have an estate car? Surely you would take everyone by jet, helicopter or a fleet of bomb proof top Mercs and Rolls Royces.

You could argue that you could have a fleet of these things instead of Rolls Royces, but if they turn out to be at least 3x the price you have to question whats the point. As for the space issue - can you honestly see Mr Sheikh and his 10 children packing luggage in the back ready for the family summer caravan holiday. Thought not...

So, whats the point of this car besides costing a fortune, looking vulgar and going much faster than you'd want any saloon to go (if you want fast, just get it's sister the Veyron)?

A well worded u-turn. I'd be amazed if a replacement concept ever sees the light of day.
