There will never be a working one of these installed on one of my vehicles.

[I'd hate to be in the warranty department]

Yeah right! Well we have a similar system to control vehicle access to a secure site.

Single tags are sometimes read by a single reader at speeds of up to 10kph (ten km/h) up to 1m (one metre) away, and even then sometimes the security guard has to intervene.

Can't you just not put them on? Or put plates on that look very similar, it's not like you're going to see any police on the roads.

Active, battery powered ?
Oh dear, my battery seems to have gone flat.
Oh dear, there appears to be water ingress and corrosion in the battery compartment.
Oh dear, my battery has overheated in the direct sunlight and has malfunctioned.
Oh dear, my battery has gone flat due to the extreme cold weather we've been having lately.
Oh dear, my battery isn't working due to a manufacturing fault.
Oh dear, my number plate has been hit by a piece of road debris which has impacted just where the chip is.
Oh dear, etc. etc.

Seeing as my latest bike numberplate is only 160 mm X 75 mm I doubt I shall comply I bet not one PH'er would accept one for any reason.

Where's the civil liberties protesters when you need them.

The ramifications for error or illegal snooping doesn't bear thinking about!

Isn't this the automotive equivalent of tagging. If I haven't commited a crime I will not be tagged, neither will my choice of transport

The company I work with does quite a lot of work with RFIDs at the moment. Even when talking about RFID tags on supermarket products to speed up checkout is causing a huge controversy amongst the civil liberties and privacy people.

On a mode of transport? Well, all motorists are criminals so they'll probably not bat an eyelid.
