So, im guessing alot of you guys on here have had many cars, just wondering what you thought was the best car you owned and why?

Ive only owned a mk1 and mk2 focus RS.....

i think the mk1 was a better out right sports car, but the mk2 is the better overall car.....

so, what has been your favorite car and why?

I've only owned (and still own) one car.

And it's still not the best one.

My 1999 Ford Puma. Interestingly the Racing Puma I replaced it with wasn't nearly as good, nor the Mini Cooper S which in turn replaced that.

The best car is the VW Touareg as it goes anywhere, doesn't breakdown and does everything I ask of it, but it is boring.

The one I think is best is my 67 Alfa GT Junior. But that does breakdown, doesn't do everything I ask of it and could negotiate a mild incline in the snow if its existence depended on it. Still 'Best' though.

The other 'Best' was my old Subaru. Insane speed (it had a few modifications wink) but it broke down etc etc.

5dr Honda Civic VTi.
Utterly reliable: (I had settings 1 and 2 on the heater fan fail, £1.30 to fix)
Relatively economical: 30mpg average (over the life of the car) and I drove it "keenly".
Practical: 5drs, folding seats, decent enough boot.
Fun: Best gearbox, power steering wasn't too heavy so nice and communicative, LSD really helped (I wouldn't own another FWD car without one), nicely balanced, only 170Bhp as standard so you could actually use all it's potential on public roads, and an 8,400rpm redline.
Anonymous: it looks like a Rover 45 FFS!

Seriously tempted to source another.

ETA: Suspension was modified as the standard set up is too soft.

By far my 95 Toyota Levin. Superb car and the mods made it look so much better than an original one. Pity a Micra killed it frown

Mondeo ST24.

19yrs old, 86p a litre for fuel, long summer, "enhanced" exhaust = cloud9

Big enough to cram all my mates in for a night out, fast enough to see off a smart roadster in a straight line (drive was less than impressed as he was trying to show off to his girlfriend at the time), enough room for my guitar + amp + gear in the boot, and its final send off this year was 4 people + camping gear + beer etc all the way to donnington and back.

It also ran 100% flawlessly with no servicing, or any regard given for its well being at all. I think i used to top the oil up every now and then, and i changed the air filter once.

all for just over a grand

Slate em all you want, I loved my mondeo biggrin

It's hard for me to pick the 'best'.

Porsche 928 S2, with the manual gearbox, was probably my favourite when it was working. It was good at everything - fast, comfy etc. It was a money pit though and ultimately the engine went pop. '7' clone kit car was probably the most fun to drive but it was a pain in the arse to drive to work when I wasn't in the mood. It had a highly strung Pinto in it that was close to full race spec. Traffic was not it's natural habitat. My sapphire Cosworth was similar - brilliant but crazy peaky turbo power delivery and a shrieking straight cut gearbox were less than ideal sometimes. Porsche 944's were great at everything but sometimes felt as if they needed more power. Saab 9000 aero was probably the best 'everyday' car but a bit dull despite it's speed.

I'm liking my current mk1 MR2 at the moment. Lovely to drive, good fun, not insanely impractical.

For all it's faults, annoyances and leaks my Lotus Elise. It felt special each and every time I got in it. The same can't be said for the competent and generally comfortable Boxster that has replaced it.

Why was that, out of interest?
(I haven't driven the Racing Puma, just curious)

Out of the 2 I've got it has to be the ST! The ZR felt a bit more planted due to having different shocks + springs and a wider rear track than intended but the ST has a more comfortable ride and more niceties inside!

PH type car, probably Skyline R33 GTR.
Overall, Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Nothing makes you feel like a big kid more than a truck the size of a country smile

+1 Although the ST220 is much better in some ways the older cars were more "fun".

To get the best out of the FRP, you really have to drive it hard - all of the timr In the standard car you don't.

My current BMW E28, lovely old machine.

I've had 45 cars ranging from Healey's to 911's and all sorts, E28 is best.

M3 CSL

Noise, Handling, power, interior and exterior detailing over the standard M3, noise

also has the advantage of 4 seats, a good boot and reasonably economical.

I'm intrigued too? Was it simply that the FRP wasn't a good example or that the performance of the standard car was more accessible (which is my contention when people say that the "only Puma worth having is the FRP" as people who've never driven one often do)?

EDITED - I missed the response that said pretty much the latter.

It also points to what you think 'best' is.

In many ways the BEST car I owned was my Skoda Octavia vRS. It was roomy, economical, quick and did almost 100k miles with no serious issues, but it's not the one that I enjoyed the most.

Truth be told, the car that I remember being the most fun was my Puma too...
