Exhaust Modification

Been looking at the poss of modding my chimera exhaust to give me a bit more sound, Ive read thru various threads that kinda explain how to go about doing it...Looks like you chop the top of the box off, remove the wadding then weld 2 pipes in??

Are there sum pipes or summat already in the box?
Do you then put the wadding back in??
Also talk of 3/4 sleeves being better?

Can anybody please give me sum advice that has done this, im eager to get started and on all of the threads everyone seems very happy with the sound.....

If anyone could list the whole procedure that would be great!

my procedure was slightly different, write cheque for £100+VAT, start smiling!

IIRC drop out the silencer, cut open box ala bypass surgery stylie!

Remove baffle wadding, cut out the perforated pipes and weld two new pipes (scaffold ) type back in place. not need to put back baffle as nothing can pass through! fold back box and re-weld.

That's what Brian at Fernies told me they did to mine.

Checked mine against a decatted Cerb the other weekend with a DB meter, the Cerb was louder at 3 and 4000 rpm and peaked at 118 DB

Mine peaked at 120!

Result or what?

My baffles were loose anyway, so removed the lot. I now just have a big empty box. You need this sound in your life

Brilliant advice thank you, just one more question, where is the best place to cut the back box, on top or the ends??

I do it a different way ..
I chop straight through the silencer witha big steel chop saw, about 2/3rds of the way along the box itself so you end up with one big part and one small part clenly chopped.
you then slide pipes over teh perforated pipe inside, with alot of silicone sealer around the ends to hold it in place, then slide the box back together and weld the seam back up .. all wadding and perforated pipes stay in place, you just stop them working. Bst bit is the wadding dampens down thwe resonances you normally get with just plain pipes, and it's *very* easy to put back to std again should the need arise - you just chop down teh weld again, take out the pipes (they're only siliconed in remember so no welding to grind through there) and sleeve the tow perforated pipes witha very short piece of plain pie to bind them together again .. reweld the box once more and it's (virtually) back to std
