From what i remember on previous threads they are quite loud and suffer from drone.
Eisenmann and Remus are both decent without too much drone. I have the Eisenmann so i know first hand on that one.

Will the car be a daily driver? Do you mind lots of drone? Is there a possibility that you would think an exhaust to be too loud?

If you answered yes to the above then the RPI GT may not be for you my friend. wink

I've had it for close to 2 years now on my daily driven MC. I personally really like it, i wont say i love it as it's definitely got its flaws. For one thing the drone through a certain rev range is appalling, loud and eardrum piercing. It's mostly between 2.5-3 thousand RPM on highway speeds. At 120kph (74-75mph) which is my cruising speed it comes out at about 2.8k RPM in 6th gear and right bang in the worst of it. If you cruise in 5th it's much better but not as fuel efficient obviously. The drone subsides somewhat after 2-3 thousand miles though it's still severe. I usually just crank up the stereo and i'm good.

In town i get a lot of stares and head turns, not always the good kind too... This thing will pop, burble and bang with the slightest brush of the pedal and even more so if you're returning from a quick spirited drive.

Once you're in the twisties though this thing is epic, loud bangs right before an upshift or lift of the throttle, heel-toeing is even more amazingly cool to listen to and the sound bouncing back at you from cliff walls is orgasmic. Do i need to even mention how it sounds like driving at 7-8k RPM through a tunnel? :P Also, this does not rasp at all. It's all bass and six cylinder goodness at high revs.

One serious flaw though is that you cant properly hear the engine note anymore. You basically trade the gorgeous, metallic, BMW straight six scream for a spine-tingly primal, race-car like howl from the rear exhausts. That was for me the hardest thing to adapt to actually, i dont mind the drone, or the obscene volume, losing that engine note took some getting used to though...

In short, if you dont mind EXTREME volume, lots of drone on the highway, maybe a ban or two from a few race tracks this is the exhaust for you! biggrin

Lots of vids from my car here to see how it sounds like: http://www.youtube.com/user/MotoristCY

Thanks mate exactly the info i needed! Yes it will be a daily driver and i could possibly deal with the drone. I was looking for a system that will pop bang and crackle and bring a huge smile to my face whilst my bursts of spirited driving! Also the tunnel on the way to work every morning will certainly wake me up!ļ But serious flaw to lose that gorgeous engine note hummm well need to have a think, there are some many exhausts out there i really need to get it right. Guys really appreciate all your advice, thanks a lot, got to spend a few hours on you tube that will please the Mrs. ļ
Will let you know how i get on.

The Eisenmanns, the Supersprints and the Hayward and Scott systems also provide plenty of pops and crackles if that's what you're looking for. Nowhere near the drama of the RPI's but they're certainly entertaining as well.

Best thing would be to try and listen to a few options in person. Videos are not always to be trusted although i do think this one of mine captures the RPI sound pretty accurate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yazcaaMTNE though nothing of the sheer volume.

Exhaust note very personal preference but here are my experience of two systems and I use my Z4MC every day.

H&S full system (no centre box) - too loud and low down drone. Awesome over 4k and will get everyones attention. Wife refused to get in car whilst fitted (not all bad :-) )

Remus - overall easy to live with and sounds great again over 4K. Annoying drone at 2-2.5k and a bit corsa-esq until get through. No issue at weekends but morning traffic is a real bore...

Went for the RPi in the end absolutely love it, yes there's a drone at low revs but you are certainly rewarded! This thing is epic, very dramatic and makes me smile every time I push it. Not for everyone but certainly what I wanted. Just took the mrs out for a run, she was not too impressed buy hey it's it my car, she has her own Z to drive! biggrin

Thanks again ga41 for the advice! thumbup

I went for the H&S backboxes on my E61 M5 and I'm well chuffed with it. Sensible F1 sounds with none of the drone. Crackles a little on overrun but that's quite cool. I can see how the full system might be OTT though.
