In a way, I'd say yes. There's something delightfully manic about the Mugen Civic and it feels like a real racer. The Audi is better in all significant respects - even value for money arguably at £40k for a Civic, but the Type R sometimes feels more highly strung.

I like the fact that Sutters suggests that in the really tight corners the Honda is better than the Audi.

Then the video shows him taking a much wider line into the corner from the opposite side of the road - hitting the apex and the understeering wide under power on the exit. While to Audi keeps to the left hand lane.

Yes, very interesting!

I can quite imagine the Civic being more fun. Audi are technically great, but the R8 has always stuck me as a bit of a dull choice and nothing about it makes me think "wow".

does seem expensive though.. £20k more than a standard type-R ? imagine buying a brand new FN2 for £19k and spending £20k on modifications..

im sure you'd have a better car than that..

Just had a "VTEC YO" epiphany yesterday and I can absolutely see where this is coming from. A car that you can rev to limit and not be doing silly speeds is incredible. I love supercars, but aside from in PH fantasy land, the opportunities to "explore the outer limits of grip" and all those other EVO cliches just don't really exist in real life, on a public road at least.

So the Civic gets to use up to 2X the road width as the Audi smile

£40k car that looks like that, no thanks...

Completely pointless comparison, in my opinion.

You often get "Supercar vs Hot Hatch" comparisons in motoring magazines, and the hot hatch is almost always deemed more enjoyable, whatever the two cars in question happen to be.

Good article (if you don't take it too seriously!) smile

I must say, I've never driven an Audi R8 or a Mugen FN2, but my DC5 is great fun through the twisties, and I can totally understand what he means about how much fun it would be on that type of road. The standard FN2 is supremely capable, so I can only imagine the Mugen FN2 to be even better! smile

They must be onto something there...

Unless you're reading EVO for "the thrill of money", where the more expensive it is, the better.

I noticed that too, he also mentioned how they were going to be sensible on public roads, but he was so close to the Audi through that corner that he wouldn't have been able to see if anything was coming the other way when he went slithering across the road.

I've driven a 'normal' Civic Type-R and they sound brilliant as standard. I ended up slowing to 35-40mph on a dual carriageway so I could accelerate up to 70 and listen to the noise. paperbag

It was EVO who did Clio Trophy vs M6 a few years back. Pretty sure the Trophy came out on top or scored very well and then EVO got panned for it on websites like this. They can't win!

Looked more like an intentionally wider line (so 'cheating' a bit) rather than slithering understeer to me. The luxury of following isn't to be underestimated.

Both cars appeared to have a perfect view of that bend and the following straight too. There was nothing high on the left side of the road confused

I think the point he's making is perfectly valid.
I've had just as much if not more fun rowing a little 1.6 along on the rev limiter than booting a hugely powerful car up a road that doesn't even allow you to go near its limits.
