Hi All,

I am fairly new to Porsche ownership...........about 1 month to be precise. So far loving my Cayenne Turbo
I have had a couple of error codes come up a couple of times in the past 10 days or so. Same codes, both times a few minutes after the first start of the morning.

My local garage hook it up, read the codes, delete them off and away we go.
Codes are as follows..............

P0021 Camshaft A2 Over advanced.
P0455 Large Leak from evap. emission system.

So I am puzzled as to the following

1. The two errors and subsequently the areas of fault i.e.camshaft & emissions do not appear to be connected so why have they cropped up twice at exactly the same time?
2. Why the 10 days or so in between the warning light being deleted and coming back on again? Is this mileage related? / engine hours related?

I am told that the error codes are nothing to panic about and can be dealt with in due course..........would you agree or am I about to trash the engine.
Car is a 2004/5 US Import (Left Hand Drive as we are emigrating next year)

I would really appreciate your thoughts and experiences.

Thanks

Rob

Hi,

The camshaft error is present in a lot of Cayenne V8 and Turbo's. Don't worry about that fault code.
As for the other one that one wants looking at in more detail.

Would need a garage that knows Cayenne's to sort it out.

Hi Check your fuel cap first. Its the first of the possible causes for that code

0-P0455 P0455
Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (large
leak)
Diagnostic conditions
• Battery voltage between 10 V and 16 V
• Engine must cool down by at least 42 °K in the time that elapses
between stopping and restarting engine
• Intake air temperature between 5 °C and 95 °C
• Variations of intake air temperature less than 12 °K
• Vehicle is travelling with longer partial load share (3 - 150 km/h)
• Engine temperature higher than 5 °C
• Diagnosis only runs below 2400 m above sea-level
• No P0441, P0444, P0445 (EVAP canister purge valve) or
P0446, P0447, P0448 (EVAP canister shutoff valve) faults in
memory
• No P2400, P2401, P2402 (leakage diagnosis pump) fault in
memory
• No P2403 and P2404 (reed switch) fault in memory

Possible cause of fault
♦ Tank cap not tightened correctly, faulty or missing
♦ Mechanical fault in EVAP canister purge valve (does not close
fully)
♦ Leakage diagnosis pump leaking internally (membrane) or externally
♦ Mechanical fault in EVAP canister shutoff valve (does not close
fully when power is supplied)
♦ EVAP canister shutoff valve connections leaking
♦ Tank system (including pipes) leaking

Hope that helps yuo a little more.
Frank

Hi Frank

Yes that does help immensely, many thanks.

I will be taking the car in Tuesday next week armed with all this information and we now have a "road map" for the diagnosis to follow.

I am aware of the time it takes to post up replies so please accept my thanks and gratitude to all of you. I do appreciate it. It will save me a sleepless night or 3!

Thanks

FWIW the first fault regarding to cam timing over advanced normally comes up when the engine has been run low on oil.

Thank you for the update...................If I may just ask a further question please.

How does one know if it has been run low on oil and assuming the oil level is now correct, how does one go about rectifying this?

Thanks
