Recently removed the wheels off my mountain bike, and noticed that each skewer has only spring each. They usually have one at each end right? Question is what purpose do the springs serve, and could I have caused damage by riding with only 1 spring per skewer?

Thanks

They maintain symetrical gaps so that the wheel cam be easily inserted in the fork ends. They are not essential from a safety point of view. They make swapping wheels around quicker and less fiddlesome.

I'm missing one on one side of my front training wheel. Makes getting it in a right old pain in the arse.

I thought 1 spring was the norm? I think most of my bikes have the one. You only need one to be fair

nono Two. One each side. Otherwise the axle pulls across. You're almost better off with none that one.

Sorry boss, I'll get it fixed.
