clear glasses for cycling
Discussion
never bothered to get them before now, and obviously wear sunnies when required, but I've just ordered a pair of clear glasses after reading about this poor bloke

I got some cheapies for this reason. Think they're made by Bolle and sold as 'sports safety glasses' on fleabay.
Couple of months back a stone got pinged up from a mates tyre straight into my eyeball. Managed to just about stay on the bike but damn near dislocated my peenor in the process.

Bolle make industry-spec safety glasses with very high impact resistance. As long as they aren't fakes, you'll be fine.Couple of months back a stone got pinged up from a mates tyre straight into my eyeball. Managed to just about stay on the bike but damn near dislocated my peenor in the process.
I'm the same. I've always worn safety glasses since getting a fly stuck in my eye several miles from home. It didn't do any damage but the journey back home to where I could get to a pair of tweezers and a mirror to remove it was far from enjoyable. The amount of chips and scratches on the lenses is proof enough for me that they're worth wearing.
I go for Bolle Contours from fleabay as well. I've got two pairs - one tinted, one clear. I've always bought the metal framed ones but I'm not really sure if they're worth the extra money or not. I've found that the lenses get too scratched to use way before the frame shows any sign of wear so the usual plastic frames would probably be fine.

I use yellow lenses for night riding and night driving. The yellow increases the contrast and is very useful if you are using bright cycling LED lights. The LEDs give off a very white light and with more powerful lights it is can be hard to make out detail. it is also useful for night driving.

You've got me thinking. The only time I've used a yellow lens at night was back in the day of 10w halogen lights, and I hated the effect so used clear lenses on night rides ever since (despite using yellow lenses most of the time on day rides). Now that I'm running super-white LEDs I'll have to try yellow lenses to see if that works for me
[limp-wrist mode on]I wear orange-tinted riding glasses that stop the bugs getting in my eyes - as well as doing a stellar job of it they also make all the heathland and offroad landscape [especially this time of year] look more amazing than just with the naked eye - the colours are amazing[/limp-wrist mode off]

I wear a cheapie pair of flourecent yellow glasses from Homebase, I think they are JCB brand. They definitely increase contrast and make dull overcast days feel warmer. thegavster said:

I prefer rose-tinted, they seem to improve my performance massively
