so.... i have found a well priced watch on chrono24, only problem is they are based in Italy they look reputable but would anyine here spend 6k with a companywithout actually going and seeing the watch ? I have obviously seen the papers etc.

Is there anyway to insure the payment with your bank or anything liike that?

Thought/ideas appreciated>?

Never purchased a watch abroad so hard to understand the best process...

Many thanks

I bought my Tudor Heritage Chrono from a grey-market trader in Germany via Chrono24, cash up front.

I think all you can really do is to investigate the seller as much as you can - I found a fair few references to the bloke I bought from on German watch forums - the reviews were all positive, so I went ahead. It was a bit of a punt, but it worked out for me. It could all have gone horribly wrong and I could have lost the thick end of €3k, but it didn't.

Thanks,

Worst thing is I cannot talk to them as they only speak Italian which causes a bit of a barrier...

Not sure I am comfortable with it... the watch is prob 500 cheaper than others but feels risky.

The fact that you posted this topic probably shows that you are not totally happy with the idea. So the answer is probably there.

While I was at sea I had the opportunity to buy my Rolex in many different countries, however I waited until I got home and bought one in a reputable jewellers.Yes I might have saved some money but I knew I had a genuine watch and I knew where to go if there were any issues.

Chances are it could be a perfectly legitimate deal but £6K is a lot to leave to chance.

As said, try and do some research on the company to see there are any happy/unhappy customers that have posted on other forums. What is the name of the company? Otherwise, take the OH on a long weekend to Italy and pick up the watch in person - Win, win! wink

I'd be very wary too, especially if you're about to drop £6K ...

Closest you can do is pay by credit card and budget to have it inspected by an AD when it lands in the UK.

But £500 on £6k probably not worth the hassle/risk IMO.

BTW, what FX rate are you using? A small amount out the wrong way and you'll obliterate the saving.
