Classic sport cars, with kids? Is it possible!?
Discussion
So, I've a hankering for a classic sports car to fill my garage, nothing specific in mind, a 2+2 is a must.
I have, however, a newborn son, who'd obviously have to be in the car when we go out and about.
Looking around, most of the things I'm looking at have lap belt bucket seats like this:
or this:
Now I'm not expecting ISOFIX and the like, but these seats don't look big enough to fit a standard forward facing child seat. So, owners of such cars, with children, how do you do it!?
(I know the PH answer will be strap the kid to the roof, or put him in the boot, but I'm not sure SWMBO will go for that)

That first pic looks like a 944, and yes you can get car seats to fit. I got mine when the kids were on boosters and whilst these cars were designed before boosters, the curvy Halfords ones fit quite well.
In reality the kids would be safer and more comfy just in the bucket seats as the boosters end up moving them up and forward.
Can still get my 2 kids (11 & 8) and the dog in the Porker

Bloody hell - I know a Rich & Em who have just had a newborn son and live in the Midlands, and are looking to replace their Alfa Mito, but neither are 'Desktop Engineers' whatever that means. Doppelgangers!
Consider an Opel Monza GSE. If you can track down a manual you'll find it very sporty, fast, very practical (huge boot, actually seats four), and so long as you keep on top of the rust, fairly reliable too.

Essentially first question is can there be a four seat Sports Car.
I think there can.
Jaguar E type 2+2 coupe would be an example Porsche 944 Turbo another. Possibly MGBC or MGB V8 a third?
All of these are legally usable as transport for two adults and two children. At some point in the past I have owned all of them individually.
Would I regard this as a sensible family orientated choice? Probably not.
In reality I think there is a better option.
Vindicator cars make a family model which will GENUINELY seat four adults.
Its a Kit Car not a classic. One om my pals who is father to three 6'6 tall and the rest follow has one and it is a remarkably good means of family transport and definitely a sports car with a 1800 Duratec tuned to 225 BHP.
Whole car weighs less than 600 Kilos you do the Maths its about 800 BHP per ton. Very very quick. Handles well. Vindicator will do turnkey you can specify everything from seat belt design, type of body, type of Hood, drive train, suspension, engine etc etc. You could fit a Rover V8 which would be unaffected by the weight of passengers which must add 50 stone.
I suggest this because convertibles are excellent family transport.
You could also look at Hillman Minx's, Sunbeam Rapier's, or even Morris Minors convertibles from years gone by.
All excellent cars, but surely not sports cars.
An interesting conundrum. I wish you well with the choice.
