DIY for the day...
Discussion
Started before 9am, carpet up, underlay up in the gym (spare bedroom), hallway and now main bedroom, outside and loaded into the car for the skip. Laminate and new underlay purchased, ready to go down on Monday.
First (and only) week off this year and its been spent new puppy training and DIY, instead of the original plan for the Sept. "holiday" of travelling round the South of France in the donkey. Yay.
So what are your DIY stories this summer?

Pah, in our old house I had the room cleared & carpet out in about an hour. Fitted the laminate and had everything back as it should be just before the wife came back home from work
DIY has been a thing of the past since buying a new house, this will not be the case when we move I fear
ps, don't forget the expansion gap

Just finished breaking my back in our second bedroom - carpet down is now down today after stripping, new sockets installed, plastering, sanding, whitewashing, 2 coats of emulsion and eggshell, refit radiator. Managed the whole thing in 2 weeks though after working weekends and afternoons after getting up at 5am for early shifts so worth it !
Had the same in the lounge/dining area in february, but that was an epic journey - damproofing company f*cked up big time and cut 2 central heating pipes and a ring main. Water leak - cue sparks etc. Due to a big hole in my concrete floor being created by dampproofing retards scrambling to see whats going on - the cowboy plumber they brought in lashed a fix up that was a complete mess and sat proud of the floor level (meaning it was exposed and you could stub your foot on it!) so sent him off and had to redo his work so that it was not going to leak and could be hidden under concrete, which was really tough in the gritty conditions, had to get my sparky in to make safe the ring main in the ground, then i had to fill the hole. Got new plasterer in to cover up the dampproof work with a nice skim, complications then developed with the plastering around the 2 RSJ's that join the front room to the dining room extension - the boxwork/plasterboards had to be ripped off the ceiling, battens glued up to RSJ's, new plasterboards and skim. Nice results but by god he was slow - took weeks. This whole thing took 2 months to sort out during which time we had to live/eat in the 1 bedroom we had available (recently moved in) - with 4 month old baby. The mess from plaster dust etc was horrific and got everywhere despite taping the double doors up to the room.
I'm done for the year after assembling the wardrobes tomorrow !! Although based on the speed at which the bedroom has got done i wouldn't be surprised if the OH starts hassling about getting the other bedroom done in time for christmas

Hung downstairs toilet door

I hung a new toilet door last Sunday
I deceided to treat myself and got a carpenter to hang 5 doors upstairs for me. By the time I'd rubbed them down, danish oiled, wire wool and waxed them, plus adjusting the bathroom lock so that the kids could undo it from inside...I might as well have hung them myself as well. At least this time he used all the right screws etc as when he did downstairs a few months ago he used the wrong brass screws on my nice new stainless steel hinges.
Last year I knocked down a wall and made our kitchen into a much bigger kitchen dinning room, so I figured this year would be an easier one regarding DIY. Now I'm being sucked into tidying up the landing (the new doors made it look scruffy
) and planing for a bit more knocking through to redo the main bedroom and fit built in wardrobes. After 10 years in this house, I figure that DIY never ends, so I just do it as and when especially if I get in from work early and make sure I use my holidays to go away rather than working...Decorated Hall/Stairs/Landing, lounge, woodwork & ceilings in bathrooms, fitted radiator in conservatory today & replaced 2 TRVs elsewhere & added system cleaner. Drain down again in a few days & fill up + additive. Tiled hallway floor. This is on top of fitting new kitchen this year & doing a lot of the donkey work knocking kitchen & diner into one & fitting oak bi-old doors. I badly need a rest!
