Has anyone done isometric training? I've been advised to stay away from heavy weights from the gym for about 6-8 weeks and n order to not loose strength try something like isometric training, can anyone point me in the right direction for this.

Reason for not weight training is to stop hypertension for a for a few weeks....

Isometric training would still have the same effect on hypertension, surely, as the load will still be increased so you will have to tense... unless you meant training using light weights?

Isometric training does work IME as I don't train the forearms outside of climbing (which is just masses of isometric training, hanging on at constant grip) yet they are as big as my upper arms.

Like RAH says,if you do isometrics your blood pressure can surge and should not be done by someone suffering from hypertension.

Now that I think about it, the old karate kata known as sanchin has been known to give the practitioner bleeding noses and, sometimes, even haemorrhoids. You are supposed to maintain body tension throughout the form.
