Merdad Says 'Meh' To The Macca 12C

Well, 'Meh Ron' actually, as pictures emerge of proposed new custom job

As insults go, calling your customised version of the McLaren 12C the 'MehRon' is a pretty good one - although we're not entirely sure it's meant as a dig at McLaren boss Ron Dennis.

The bigger insult may be against good taste and decency, as the Merdad Collection offers up these pictures of its lurid take on the svelte, timeless lines of the new 12C. (Yes, we know some of you think the 12C's lines are less than scintillating, but that's your - and Mr Merdad's - prerogative!)

According to the eponymous company owner this is 'a groundbreaking design with a more dramatic and brutal overall effect.'

'The front is made to look wider and more aggressive; its eyebrow lines wrap around the head lights giving it more attitude, the side view graphic gives a more forward direction which suits mid-engine super cars more. The pictures also show a more muscular rear fender. The rear of the MehRon GT, with its black exposed carbon fibre, gives it a racier look. The sharp corners are more aerodynamic and modern looking.'

According to Mr Merdad, the car can also be ordered with a wide range of personalisation options to the interior, while performance upgrades include a SuperSound Exhaust system, special design Merdad Lightweight Forged Wheels and an Engine Power Increase; all ready from 2012.

As far as we know, the MehRon GT has yet to progress beyond these drawings, but what with all the publicity - well, stranger things have happened!

I actually quite like the look of it. There, I've said it!
I don't see the point of the sports exhaust though. I thought McLaren were working on beefing up the car's exhaust note following criticism from journalists at the model's launch that it was a bit too subdued. Also, those wheels look huge. I hate to think what they would do to the ride quality. Or are they the stock items? Doh!

I really like the design of the car in the second picture. The standard car is the epitome of blandness imo.

Not keen on the third circular thing between the two exhausts on the back though.

Do those wheels actually have tyres on them? I can't actually tell.

It doesn't look bad, but maybe not as good now on the aerodynamic side of things? I'm no expert on that so maybe it makes no difference and i suppose if you put looks higher on your list of priorities then it doesn't really matter.

I really like that, personally I think the standard 12C looks too bland and needs beefing up.

Is nothing sacred?

How do these companies make money?

Mansory
Kahn
etc?

I wouldn't even consider buying a supercar with stuff stuck on it

Even the Prodrive stuff was borderline on the AMV8

Ah well I suppose I do like the Zagato Astons etc but somehow this isn't the same its just not Cricket

Without the decal and in dark grey it would be sensational!

Agreed, dark blue for me though.

So they're going to completely fk up the efficiency of the engine intakes with garish lumps of plastic?

Seems like a reasonable thing to do to a sports car.

Make it heavier and less powerful. Where do I sign?

timeless? wouldn't a car have been around for a least a few years before the design can be labelled timeless?

G - is your freelancer taking the piss again?

Fair point on the intakes, but I believe Mr Merdad is promising an increase in power?

so essentially it's performance neutral?

It looks OK, but I still wish they, and others of their ilk would sod off and barry some hatchbacks instead. Even for someone with utterly questionable tastes in cars like me they do nothing. Still, if there's a [sandy, oil rich] market for them...

Looks pretty on paper but it will mess up the aero and create all sorts of vortexes that will lead to funky 'whistles' all over. This car features an aero braking system - personnally I wouldn't want some bunch of 'artists' messing with my ability to stop.

As for more power, etc. Leave it to the experts lads - without the engineering might of Macca behind you I fear you're going to turn up the wick only to have a detrimental effect elsewhere. If Macca thought more power was applicable, they'd have put it in there.

I'm all for customising (I have my own project going on) but not on highly tuned monsters like this.

Looks like a 458 nose grafted onto a McLaren...

That said, I'm still firmly in the "Meh" camp when it comes to the base car...
