Undeliverable mail
Discussion
Hi computer people,
I'm sending email from a mail server on a remote machine and for some reason they're getting returned by the likes of AOL and hotmail, the ones to me at blueyonder are fine.
Anybody any ideas, if you need more info I can post that. I'm using the Persists object to send.
cheers

AOL is very strict on mail servers.
You need to have valid Reverse DNS on your IP before it will accept your mail.
This is fine for legitimate servers, but not so fine for those running mailservers on cheap hosting outfits.
Simply ask the host of the remote box to ensure valid Reverse DNS is in place.
Hope this helps.

Just to clarify, some also require that the name that you get when your lookup the IP matches the IP you get when you lookup the name you get when looking up the IP
So....
bash $ host host.domain.com
host.domain.com has address 192.168.0.25
bash $ host 192.168.0.25
25.0.168.192.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer host.domain.com.

that's not a command prompt, that's just a box they give you to make you think you have control over the 32 bit extensions and graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprocessor, written by a 2 bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.
sorry, couldn't resist

if you post one of the "bounces" you get back here (after snipping personal content) I, or someone will be able to give you a better idea of why its getting bounced......
You asked for it..

hmm, you're right, they're not being very helpful. all I can suggest is asking postmaster@aol.com why your mail is being bounced. I have some anti-spam stuff on my mail address... send me a mail through my profile, and then we can do a couple of tests and see if my mail system picks up anything odd that they might not like.....
Cheers,
Karl

I will wager, with AOL, you wont pass their 'anti-spam' checks.
Try getting RevDNS sorted,
