ipod connection for 987 Boxster - any ideas - what's good

Just bought an '05 Boxster S, 987, and would like to put a decent iPod connection in - one that uses the PCM as a display - anyone done this - recommendations??

If you don't have or care about getting an Porsche extended warranty I've heard good things said about the Dension Gateway.

Yeah Dension gateway is the way to go (500) if you dont want to worry about warranty

Thanks Durzel - looks like the 100 and 300 won't work but £360 is a bit rich plus another £85 for bluetooth. Suppose i'm out of touch!

If you already have the PCM, then the auxilliary inputs should not be that expensive (£230 if fitted in factory). However, if you have only the CD player (like mine) then long term I may look at 3rd party products as an upgrade to PCM would be prohibitive.

you just want to play music?

there's an american ipod adaptor for the porsche stereo that's about £25. it charges it up but you need to use the ipod controls & obviously you can't do phone calls if you're using an iphone.

i had one & it was a great buy

Was this for the standard CD player stereo or the PCM system? I don't suppose you'd have a link be any chance please?

it was just for the standard porsche/becker cdr22/cr22 type head unit though might work on the pcm system. it basically used the cd changer input. it was a guy in america making them-really good service sent you diy instructions, removal tools etc.

if that's the thing you're after trawl through my previous posts on my profile i have mentioned it before on here & 911uk i think.

You had my hopes up for a minute. After finding your previous thread on this, I went to their site and found it is only for the CDR22 and not the later CDR30 in my Cayman.... argh.

I looked into an integrated system, I think Denison for a cayman s with PCM.

End result was it was going to cost a fortune.

Also, I saw a 997 turbo having one fitted at the same time. Let's just say, if I was the owner I would have been in tears. Dashboard, glovebox was all dismantled trying to get the system fitted.

Just kept to one of those adapters that sent music through fm on the radio. Bit naff, not ideal, but it did the job.

I've got a new fm thingy from Belkin and it's pretty good.

Your iPhone can talk to it and based on gps find the best free station.

Not 100% but better than previous version.

I've never understood why people will pay tens of thousands on a luxury sports car & then put up with rubbish sound & phone integration, it really spoils the experience for me. I guess if it's a weekend car it makes less difference

I installed the Dension kit myself, took about 90 mins, was very easy indeed & now I can use the phone stalk on the steering wheel, get caller display in the console, and can change & browse my music on the PCM screen. Definitely didn't involve removing any of the interior of the car such as glove box, dash. Cost about £400 and well worth it, will be able to recoup most of that selling it when I sell the car too.

I'd love to have something that works, but how do you then get around the warranty problem!

Not sure what that would've been but don't think it would've been the Dension.

I briefly looked into getting one before getting distracted by other shiny things and from what I could gather from installation pics it simply splices into the equipment in the back of the car. I believe the install is slightly different if you have a factory fitted CD changer and/or telephone module on the PCM, but the only modification really should be getting power to the unit and fixing it somewhere in the back.

Dension Gateway uses the same Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) interface that the car (PCM) already uses, so software wise it's a transparent install.
