Guys,

I want to fit a net between the 2 speakers and wonder if the self tapping screws supplied with the net are safe to use or too long: they are 18mm long (excluding the head). So once I put them through the net there will be about 16 mm of screw going through the rear shelf...

Is you know, the petrol thank is not far behind and I obviously do not want to tap not my tank...

Is it safe to use those screws of would you use shorter ones...?

Cheers, Frenchie

You would use them if someone on here says it is ok to do it?

Stick something like a piece of wood down there and check it out for yourself, your car might be different to others anyway, then what?

Why nor drill a small pilot hole through the rear shelf then stick a small drill or stiff piece of wire in the hole and see how much clearance you have behind the tank.
Simples.
Paul.

Hi ribol and Paul at home, good idea, checking by myself (pilot hole and test) is definitely a better solution that taking someone's answer granted...? After all, they are hand built car and could differ... So a test is definitely easier an cheaper than replacing team...

Surely if the petrol tank was right behind the bulkhead , there wouldn't be room for the speakers?

top screws will probably be above tank but maybe not the lower ones ? on mine the speakers were quite high but if the net is going between the vents that will be tank level

when drilling into "the unknown" I put a little piece of screen wash tube or similar over the drill bit so only about a quarter inch of bit is exposed so even if drill breaks through unexpectedly it can't go far.

Hi Silicon kid,

The netting is to put hay in it: I have to pet rabbits that are traveling with me, they live on the rear bench and get really hungry, so I though i"ll feed them this way, pretty sweet non?

Hi Phillpot,

Thanks for the idea of putting a "guard" over the drill bit, such a simple trick, but I had not through about it!

Your boots looks tidy (I have a couple of those booth bags too), but I have a couple of other questions:
- with the spare wheel fitted where it is, can you still put the roof in the boot? (I presume that is the boot of your Chimaera in the photo, not your "S"? I am quite happy with my spare as it is, standard position, but just asking...).
- What is the "Box", covered in carpet, at the bottom left of your boot...?

Cheers, Frenchie

I'd take one of the speakers out so you can see how much space there is. 16mm sounds a bit long to me. There is also some wiring back there so take care . . .

Where did you get the net from BTW?

Battery is in there, that's why spare can't go in its original place the opposite side because roof wouldn't then fit but does, no problem, with layout in picture.

Little bag from Tesco (maybe still available?)larger from Aldi, iron-on badges from Ebay wink

Good luck
