Being an Impreza owner, if you want a car that is the finished article out of the box go for the BMWs. The Impreza is a diamond in the rough, you will need to be interested in modding to get the car to the position of the M3 or 645.

Just my opinion.

He said sounds.

It's between the m3 and the impreza, and depends entirely on whether you like the distinctive sound of the subaru's exhaust.

Its all dependant on what you want from a car. The M3 is the finished article, plenty quick enough and if you want an Impreza to match it you'll have to go hardcore, like the Spec C out of the box, or modify a WRX/STI to suit.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Impreza but it is a different car to an M3, and not ideal for wafting up the motorway any more.

M3 Sounds the best standard. The 645 V8 would sound great with a after market exhaust on though!

Impreza sounds ok, but not as nice as the I6 and V8(once opened up) of the BMWs.

Probably the M3 if they're all standard - as much as I love Subarus, the turbo and standard exhaust muffle it a bit compared to the M3 straight-6.

You have completely lost me. The OP asks which sounds the best. I gave my opinion on the matter. Please enlighten me as to what I have failed to read.

Ha ha sorry guys!

It is twice,isnt it!

Impreza is the most noticeable sound, whether or not you like it is purely personal. I do.

Ive owned a few of each in the past and although the Subaru has a nice burble, the E46 M3 is a more seductive, hard edged, wailing banshee of a sound that builds throughout the rev range.

The downside of the Subaru is that it is audible even when tootling along and tends to turn the heads of the chav. Like it or not Subaru has associations with the lower life forms that tend to steal things, smoke cigarettes and have tattoos displaying the names of their illegitimate offsprings such as Kayleigh, Connor or Kaitlyn.

I had an E60 545i, with a standard exhaust it was barely audible...probably OK with an aftermarket one.

Way to generalise, Piggy.

My sons is called Connor by the way, but I am way too much of a wuss to have his name tattooed on me.

Having looked at this thread though, it seems you do struggle with reading tongue out
Fair play Doogz, I did jump the gun. No problem with reading as such though. Anything constructive to add to the thread?

Aftermarket on the v8, although the car won't see which way an m3 or impreza went

The M3 by a country mile, mainly as much of it's noise comes from induction rather than exhaust - which is why it's more greatly improved by adding a carbon airbox than a fruitier exhaust.
