Because the slicks generate lots of grip you end up putting more forces through the suspension, so any bits of rubber (bushes etc) will wear out bloody quickly.
Yes, you'll get a bit more grip, but to make the most of it you really want to stiffen the shell and run some bloody firm suspension.
Personally, I'd go with some track tyres (I used Kumho v70a) to start with. In fact, that's what I did!
