anybody using slicks on M3 Evo?

I'm after a bit of advice really.

I want to get some track wheels for my 1997 Evo and don't know what would be best. I want to get some sets of used BTCC slicks put on them.

The original wheels (17's) I will keep for road use.

I used to use slicks on mine, but not until I had upgraded everything else (suspension and cage primarily).

What mods have you done to your car?

Well, nothing yet!
I'm sitting here with a list of possible cages currently. I'm going to strip out most of the interior and chuck in a couple of bucket seats.
After a few drives, I will see what I think I need.

Because the slicks generate lots of grip you end up putting more forces through the suspension, so any bits of rubber (bushes etc) will wear out bloody quickly.

Yes, you'll get a bit more grip, but to make the most of it you really want to stiffen the shell and run some bloody firm suspension.

Personally, I'd go with some track tyres (I used Kumho v70a) to start with. In fact, that's what I did!

Mate, you'll be lucky if they let you on when I think about it, remmember being told at croft that we needed a cage in first before we run ours with them. So thinking about it i'll not bring them down for you and instead bring the M5 ;-).

Feller, also remember that as long as there is no 'standing' water the slicks will still be better than track day tyres. And the slicks are a lot cheaper (i'll show you where to get them) than buying track tyres.

Not evo, but on non evo & a 328.

Obviously need cage & proper set up.

The dunlops wear quicky & ultimatly on old Slicks not much if any quicker than new r tyres but they are appróx 500 quid cheaper!

right forget the slicks. I will get some track tyres then if I can find a nice set of wheels.

Lee - bring the M5! there is a noise limit however.....
