blow pretty well my entire watch pot on one of these?

I've struggled to find a pre-owned one so although I hate buying new, it looks like that's my only option apart from being very patient and spending loads of time "on the hunt"

There are very few left in the UK dealer network, but I have tracked one down & got it reserved. The dealer has indicated a small discount is definitely available but from discussions so far, I'm thinking 10% off the RRP of £5,900 will be about as good as it's going to get. They are pretty rare so it's not like I can walk down the road to buy another one.

I've not tried one of the 42mm auto's on yet, but I have tried the chrono, which at 46mm + the big crown & pusher wore huge. However, it was a useful exercise to assess the build quality, which was just stunning - a real step up from even the Dornbluth I have & the GO Sport EVO I sold earlier this year.

Thoughts gents?

If you can afford it and there's nothing else you'd rather spend the money on, then go for it.

You'll still be keeping some of your other watches?

Do you mean out of your Watch fund, that will use it all, but you won't have to sell any of the others?

If it meant you kept most of your other watches, then I'd go for it.

I wouldn't get it if it meant chopping in all the others for it.

This, IMO. I think...

How bad an itch is it? Would you really splash out that much without trying one on? You do pass a few purchases on now and again, could you swallow whatever depreciation this would suffer? Would it honestly get enough wrist time? How 'attached' to your other pieces are you? Is it the thrill of the chase?

I'm still in the process of considering selling quite a few of mine on for something 'bigger' (not quite that big a catch though!) so I kinda know how you feel.

Tricky, very tricky. Good luck!

I don't need to sell anything from the current collection. My sales so far this year (incl. the GO Sport Evo & my Siffert Autavia) comfortably exceed my purchases, but it's still a chunk to spend on a single watch and the most I'll have done to date, hence the post.

Ah, in that case, I'm gunna have to egg you on!!

It's a stunning watch, and JLC are a pretty safe bet anyway. If supply really is so low, you'll have no problems shifting it on if you decide it's not for you.

Errrr .... Sorry, but no. You have great taste in your collection with many pieces I'd happily take and some we have both owned, and each to their own, but something's going on with JLC's at the moment for me and I don't think they'll age well. Don't like the crown arrangement and just think for a brand I generally consider as under stated it seems to trying to hard, can't put my finger on I, I'd probably change my view if I saw it in the flesh, but that's not doing it for me, especially at £5k.

Really think it probably looks better in the flesh ...

Had one sent down to AD for a look at....way too thick...bulky for the size of the face. Odd.....not for me.

It is only £5500 in cashflow terms though isn't as you will sell it within a year or so and recoup 75% of your outlay - so it is really a rental for about £1500/year.

TBH, much as I get turned off by Rolex being the obvious choice, if I were looking for that style I would almost certainly go for a Sea Dweller.

Dor me that JLC doesn't have the cleanliness I usually associate with their watches, nor do I think it's distinctive in the mass of ss/black/black dive watches that are out there.

However, watches are all down to personal taste and, if you do decide to go for it, from prior experience more than 10% is possible on JLC.

You've got to look at it with the right frame of mind to love it enough to buy it I think, I really like these but they just wouldn't suit me I think. But never say never...
Nonetheless, you'll get something extremely well made and veeeeery cool !

Just out of interest, what is it about it that appeals to you?

- Oh, and very well done by the way - arguably the best maker.
