Filling up

At the risk of sounding like a complete loser. Any tips on filling up with petrol?

I have filled my chim up about 3 times since buying her but have had to give up a few times because the pump will only let in about 1 litre per decade.

I always use Optimax, though might switch to BP's premium brand now they have cut prices, some pumps will let me fully depress the lever and others as indicated are infuriatingly slow. Any suggestions anyone or am I just exceedingly thick.

The only problem I have with putting fuel in the Chim is I have to do it far too often

Normally if you hold the nozzle at 90 degress to the car it can go fully in (no jokes please ) and the fuel delivers fine...
Some petrol pumps nozzles do have over sensitive cut off valves though so it's really down to the luck of the drawl.

Treat her gently, put it in only a little way to start with, then deeper. You should be able to fill her right up without any problems. As she is getting close and your nozzle stops, pull out slightly then finish her off with one last burst, remember to clean up any spills quickly as they can stain, put nozzle away and pay your money.

I usually have to wiggle it a little to get it all the way in, but then it fills without further problems....

Billybig -

Hold the nozzle vertical with the handle towards the drivers side, and lower into the filler gently.

As you lower, you will meet resistance. Turn the handle towards you (clockwise) and you will find that the nozzle will go in further.

Works for me anyway.

A little jiggling helps.

Just keep at it, you'll soon get the hang of it.

I find that with the handle pointing towards the left hand side of the car, I get no fuel spills or issues in filling up. It also reduces the number of stop start fuel issues I have

BP, Sainsburys and Tesco's have followed ASDA's lead and cut their prices by 2p a litre.

According to my mate Swiss Toni, "Filling your TVR with Petrol is like making love to a beautiful woman; first of all you unlatch her boot, carefully push your nozzle in, pump her full of fuel and then pull it out careful not to drip on her back.."
