Hi, I run a 2004 ML500. I am well pleased with it, but I drive a considerable mileage each year and tow a 16' tri-axle trailer on a regular basis. Despite all the horror stories, the ML has been brilliant, apart from the lumpy and crashy ride. I was considering an facelift X5 04 - 07 era, and I'm aware that the 4.8is has air suspension. Does this provide a comfortable ride in spite of the huge rear tyres, or is it no better than the standard Sport models? I would appreciate any comments. Cheers, Steve.
My dad has a 2001 ML 320, Back in 2005 I had a 4.8is; the ride quality in the X5 was far better than his ML, so much I offered to sell it to him when I changed - he kept the ML (10 years now!).
I remember one chap that came to look at my 4.8is he was primarily looking at them for their towing ability. I wish I'd kept the 4.8 though - sold it 3 1/2 years ago with 24k on it for £21,000. I think I'd get that today! (purchase price was £68k - that hurt).
