Evening fellas,

Sister and Bro in law have just moved to Charlotte NC.

Me and the OH are heading out for a couple weeks in a couple weeks, any of you got any ideas on what we should get up to?

We are looking to possibly hire a car (HUGE V8 pick up) and explore a bit around NC and SC, head to the coast (wilmington, myrtle etc)

So far we are planning to watch some sport, NFL, NBA and possibly NASCAR, but this will take up just a couple evenings.

Any suggestions appreciated,

Thanks.

When are you going?
If you want to watch basketball they don't start until the end of oct but there's american football at duke college in durham nc 24th sept, oct 15,22,29th.
College football/basketball is better than nba/nfl as it's cheaper and the atmosphere is much more lively

Re the nba at the moment there on strike!
Charlotte bobcats have home games oct 19,20,25,25 and nov 4,12,14,19,21,23 (providing there not still on strike), they play at the time warner arena in charlotte.
You have another 2 college teams in north carolina , duke@durham andnorth carolina college who play at chapel hill near raleigh.

I live just outside Raleigh in NC.
Think about heading inland as well - Blue ridge parkway. Asheville area, Biltmore house.
Makes for a great driving weekend up in the mountains, it is spectacular. Only a couple of hours from Charlotte.

I was in Wilmington last weekend, there is no real damage from Irene, a few branches off but no structural issues.
Farther up the coast to the outer banks took the hit.
Downtown Raleigh is worth a visit, plenty of history and a few museums.

There is a lot of choice here, whatever your fancy there will be something to do.

Sure is - downtown Charlotte.
Panthers have home games on Sept 25th (Jags) and Oct 9th (Saints) and don't miss the BoA 500 NASCAR race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Oct 15th.
There are some awesome roads in the Blue Ridge. Head west to The Tail of The Dragon at Deals Gap - though it might be a bit of a snore in a pick-up.

ETA - You lucky SOB - You can catch the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta on Oct 1st. This is one of the very best races on the ALMS calendar - and a really easy 200 mile drive from Charlotte. If you call yourself a car enthusiast and miss this race, there's something seriously wrong with you.
We'll be at Turn 3 - stop by for a cold beer...

Thanks for your help chaps. Currently out here at the moment.

Weather is all over the shot, blazing hot and then thunder and lightning without warning!!

Went to the game at the weekend, was good to see the panthers take a win.
Had a cheeky trip to carowinds theme park which was surprisingly good.
We are off to the NASCAR hall of fame tomorrow most probably and will have a wander around downtown.
This weekend we are heading inland up into the mountains, we have a nice log cabin booked and will be exploring around the area, notably blowing rock, grandfather mountain, blue ridge etc etc.

Apart from that we are being fairly lazy, enjoying the warmth and making the most of some cheap shopping!!
