I occasionally find BBC's Radio 4 Any Questions? playing in the car.
Why do I have to listen to the likes of Joan Bakewell pontificating about economics, when she clearly knows nothing about the subject? I think she was sharing the platform with Nigel Lawson, or some similar worthy, who was able to articulate with authority.
Why spoil this with the blatherings of an arty farty woman, making little sense of anything..?
More worrisome is Bakewell's elevation to the House of Lords as a Labour peer. Do you realise, this woman is moulding legislation that affects our daily lives?
I feel my bowels rumbling in despair...

The trick is not to listen to "discussion programmes" on radio 4, or anywhere else on the media for that matter.
I find they are usually full of people who know sod all about the topic under discussion, and/ or are politicians trying to score cheap points off the other lot.
Thirty years ago I was an avid listener/ watcher of many of these things, but the older I get the more tired of it I've become.

Singularly good advice. Modern Politics is absolute c--p. I find they are usually full of people who know sod all about the topic under discussion, and/ or are politicians trying to score cheap points off the other lot.

She was quite a looker in her younger days. She's gone a bit loopy in her dotage, now saying that women's sexual freedoms are bad and that Mary Whitehouse was right. This despite her programme on BBC some years ago showing her looking at a couple having sex. She's a weird one alright. She'll fit in completely in the Lords. Just the type they like.
She writes well, if you ignore the content. She churns out excellent quality material all the time.
She was having it off with Pinter when they were both married and now goes on about lack of morals of youngsters.

In answer to the OP's question, the media is staffed with people of an artistic background.
So for some reason, they think they have something to bring to serious subjects like economics.
And yet are probably happy to criticise Nigel Lawson when he forays into discussing climate change.
