How fast is the Hennessey Venom GT? Err... very

Speedo video reveals one heck of a rapid Texan supercar

Okay, so a video showing only the rev-counter and speedometer isn't going to win the Palme d'Or at Cannes, but it is a pretty compelling indication of just how devastatingly fast the Hennessey Venom GT is.

But then the supercar-that-began-life-as-an-Elise should be pretty fast: it's got 1200hp courtesy of its twin-turbo GM V8 and weighs in at a modest 1218kg.

We can only hope (and assume) that a private test track was used for this run, which takes the Venom from 70mph to 215mph in a staggeringly short 15secs (or so)...

Whoa, that is quick indeed! Driving an Elise at speeds nearing 100 is scary enough screw driving one (which is really what it is) at 200.

The car was mental at the Festival or Speed on the Friday morning run, as soon as it went onto boost the car was darting all over the place and looked fairly uncontrollable.

I reckon they turned the boost down after that as it wasn't as mental for the rest of the weekend.

It's a superb thing.

Seemed like alot of bridges, signs, lorries and other cars (in the reflections) on that test track to me...

Very impressive but why was he short-shifting? Surely in an acceleration test you should be using the entire rev range?

High pressure turbos, the torque is probably dropping of like a cliff no need to rev it out

They obviously havent witnessed the 70-215 of a mapped reliant robin.

Back to topic though, that speedo is jaw droppingly quick, would have helped if it was run alongside a GPS speedo for some accuracy though, nethertheless though.. Bloody quick!

Not if the whole shebang is so badly thought out, it cannot transmit it's power to the road ...
