Proving to be fantastic fun, especially overhauling half the class of caterhams, westys and elises on such a tight course. Peel the numbers off and go home in the same car....wonderful!

(got a bit carried away with trying the windows slip editing software!...best with the sound on)

Not too bad thx. About middle of the class. If I could erode 1-2 second then I'd be up there challenging the top of the group.

A stiffer anti roll bar I think would help stick the first long fast bend (Hollow Bend) at faster pace. And I need to launch off the last corner (Ashes) better…...combination of a better line and check my lsd isn't messing me around (as per the utube clip from July).

Great fun and much less hard on the car than even a track day because each run is barely over 30s.
…..unless you bin it of course!

What is the class? What are you up against? (I know you mention Caterhams etc but what's the class based on?)

May I ask what camera set up are you using? Just about the best footage I've seen...

Nice tidy run! What was your best time?

At least you didn't get a pheasant suddenly appearing in the road just after the finish line. I got round the kink at the end without a visit into the field but my overalls needed laundering after that last year. yikes

Its all a bit smoke-and-mirrors. As far as Gurston is concerned; we fall into 'unmodified road going' BUT 'limited production' because TVR, Lotus, Caterham, Westfield all made les than 1000 (?) in any one year. This means we don’t get put in the same class as the unmodified Scubys, Evos, 911's etc etc etc.

So if you want to be clever and try and win a class then a TVR isn't the thinking mans choice, it seems. BUT it sure as hell is a fantastic blast charge your way up through the field and its entirely possible to be very competitive me thinks.

Thx smile my first effort to
Bought one of those HD Hero vid camera you always see folks have on caterham roll bars etc. Suction cup to the rear window for the inside shots (with exposure setting on 'spot' to avoid it concentrating on inside the car), or mounted in the perfectly sized rad grill opening at the front (expo set to the other option. Instructions all made reasonable sense). Then a few outside shots from a camera on film mode.

37.72 was best.
In 2 Gurston visits I've gone from; 45(w), 42(w), 39, 38....then 45(w), 38, 37, 37.
So I'm heading in the right direction. Know where I can get faster.

You had a pheasant incident? I saw some footage of someone crashing to avoid one. Agree the finish line kink is perfectly designed to catch you just when you think its all over!....and the hole in the hedge proves it has been for a few cars!

Been there. I'll send a linkie 2nite (I'm at work at present!!)for you to see the TVR Speed Champs so you could come out and play with us in a class just for TVRs. We were there (10-ish) in Jun and linkie will show you our times and then the TVR Steve Cox Handicap system which makes a very-level playing field.

We play on 24 different Speed Hillclimbs and Sprints in a season!!! Plenty to choose from incl Gurston, Shelshley Walsh (next weekend - Sun), Wiscombe, Loton, Harewood, Prescott??

Go on, its the very best way to waste one's time.

Hi Trev. Yes its on the cards for 2012. Been spending far too much time picking Jes Firths brains this year already. Beauty is Gurston is 15 mins for me....and easier sell to the family, for this year anyway.

That's a very good time! Cerbera best run times for Gurston in the TVRCC Speed Championships for the last couple of years have been;

(Cerb 4.5s)
41.03
39.91

(Cerb 4.2s)
42.16
40.59
39.03
35.78 yikes (Jes in a 4.2)

Unfortunately I don't know where Jes gets the extra 4 seconds from - something to do with taking the whole first section flat I suspect...

The pheasant was a serious brown trouser moment. It popped up bang in the middle of the track just after the finish line at 103 mph heading into the kink. The intellect says "don't swerve, drive through it", the reflexes say "sod that for a game of soldiers, we are going round". I was so certain that I was coming off that I chose the field side to do it rather than the hedge, as it would be less damaging, but some how it stayed on the black stuff. As I pulled into the collecting paddock at the top I saw the pheasant calmly strutting off in my rear view mirror.

You were very lucky there, so was the bird!

Jes sure did fly up there.
I was flat around Hollow. With a stiffer arb I reckon it would feel solid enough to carry a bit more speed even.

Where I really loosing out is the last bend (ashes) onwards. Despite a reasonable line I am only making 90mph finnish?! If u see my july gurston utube posting u see my inside wheel smoke away much of my time.......still felt poor this time.

Suspect the hydra diff isn't helping me here. If I could carry 100mph over the finnish I'd be in the 36's I'd hope.
