recommend a diesel circa 170bhp ? hire or purchase?

I am getting a car allowance of 600 quid a month next year and I am trying to do some research.
So far I quite like the seat leon fr170 and octavia vrs.
I am allowed up to 6 years old for work purposes.
I know that the golf tdi also shares the same engine but i think its a bit more pricey.
I want something of a decent size for doing lots of motorway miles.
There are a few contract hire offers for the skoda around £350 a month.
I like the idea of being able to hand the car back if i move job etc.
Insurance is 70 quid a month for the seat and skoda.
anyone got any other suggestions that will be similar in price?

Depends how much you want to spend, and if you only want a work hack and nothing else.
If you want a 9-5 work car with minimal expense, I'm seeing the Chevvy Cruze hard to beat. 160hp diesel (VM Motori, same lump as the modern London cabs), the rest of the car is basically Vauxhall Astra. For the money, I don't think you'll get a highish power diesel for less unless you want to go considerably older. 6 month old ones with 4-6k on the clock are going for £9k at franchised dealers.

It's been about 7 years since I did a contract hire thing, so my memory might be a bit fuzzy. I was on a 3x35 deal with a Vectra, and I'm sure there was a minimum 50% of term you had to pay if you needed to get out.So far I quite like the seat leon fr170 and octavia vrs.

Also, don't forget, £600pcm after tax is about £425'ish
I'm looking at a new job and checking out some of the deals at Lings if I get it as I'll be in the same position
