Hi Guys

I'm after a 944s2 and am looking at one tomorrow.

I wondered what guide price for a 1992 s2 in good condition with service history should be?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Depends on miles & massively dependent on condition.

For private sales, good 'uns needing nothing doing with av miles fsh etc etc tend to be in the broad £4-7k, for high end prices id expect it to be in absolutly amasing condition tho.

Cabs a bit more.

You won't be disappointed - great value sports GT
Ah I had a nice drive in my car today - even quite impressed a mate who drag races a 7.4 litre Camero
(Though he still thinks I should pay a visit to 9M for a supercharger )

No - just mildly spirited, particularly joining a busy A34 with a rather short slip road
I'd say that an S2 is a better road car, whereas a turbo is more at home on a track - though probably very exciting on the road

I took my S2 Cabriolet to a major Porsche rally this last weekend, it was a combo of the "Tennessee Tubs" (a 356 club) and the local PCA chapter. I was the "only" 944 there, and I received so much attention with my imaculate 1990 sitting there with the top down, that the wife now says she has a new appreciation for the car. One guy in particular was really crying, said he sold his a few years ago and was lamenting the fact that it looked exactly like mine.

Some of the guys driving Boxsters looked at it like they didn't know what it was, the younger guys, ha ha ha, who didn't know what a 944 was (that's hilarious).

In any case, over the road the car has the power to go faster than 99% of the posters in this forum can handle. With a turbo, on those winding roads, I seriously doubt if the car would be any faster realistically, and the S2 is easier to drive as the power delivery is linear.

Yes, the turbos are fantastic, but they don't take anything away from the S2. From the looks of the crowd I attracted, there are plenty of other quite knowledgable people who obviously think so too.

Great car, lovely balance and handling -my first Porker and one I cld comfortably hang the tail out -on track of course!!

And a swallower of luggage of stupendous proportions -BTW, the rear seat foot wells are great for stacking wine bottles for a French booze cruise -helps the handling too!!

Could do with a little off the ride height to help the handling though, which is where the wine comes in.... .

Thanks for your comments guys.

Test drove it at the weekend. It looked pretty good. I'm not expert but it had full Porsche service history, all the changes etc. I'm getting it inspected so fingers crossed.

Apparently I stepped out after the test drive with the biggest smile I've had for a while.

I appreciate what some of you have said re the Turbo but for me I think it's sensible to start of on the s2 and then work my way up (if need be).

Mines an s2. Its my first porsche. Sticks to the road and handles well. The acceleration is easy to controll, smooth and pins me to the seat. Get FSH and have an independent go over it before you buy. These are old cars and it's worth knowing what you might need to spend to have the tight controll these cars are capable of.

Check out clarks garage site and any other information you can. I found 944 FAQs on the web (can't remember where) but it is very useful. I changed the tyres on mine shortly after buying and that improved the handling. A full wheel alignment is also worth while as is changing bushes.

The only complaint I have is the original suspension is too soft even for road use and parts are a bit pricey.

It is a porsche and has to be driven.

Hi Guys

The independent expert has reported - good news!! So I've put down the deposit and am picking it up in 2 weeks and I can't wait-my first Porsche!! I'm so excited - I wanted one of these since I was 16 and now 14 years later...finally.

I've been told that I may have to get a CAT1 alarm/immobiliser put on it as the original factory fitted one may not be acceptable to some insurance companies. Any recommendations?

Frizzells (Liverpool Victoria) seem to offer competitive quotes without requiring security upgrades.
